I own an 87 Nauti 2001 with a Ford 350 PCm in it. I haven't used it since August and went out on Saturday. Start up was harder than normal but I figured that was due to lack of use for the past few months. Anyway once I got it going it was having a hard time keeping enough rpms in idle and died a few times on me. Once I'd let it warm up for a while it was fine with the low RPMs but after I'd run it while towing people at around 25 RPMs when I'd bring it into idle the psi's were really high (at the top of the gauge.) and oftne the alarm would go off for a second or two. This was especially so if I'd click it into reverse for a bit.

Does anyone have any idea what the problem might be and how serious it is!?!

Thanks!

you may have to change the oil press sending unit...its probably on the left side of the block beneath the exhaust manifolds. (looking from front of motor) Does the pressure stay up all the time..? If you have an oiling system problem your boat would have more than likely been smoked by the end of your day..

Thanks! I didn't notice any major changes in the pressure just that it seemed high most of the time and the alarm would sounds for a second or two when I'd put it into reverse and back.

Can anyone else offer advice or tell me why the engine might have high psi's? I'd like to better understand the workings of my own engine.
