I need some help guys, The dealer installed the back hoop of my Titan tower the wrong way. In order to fix the problem, they need to drill new holes and do gell coat work:( Will this compromise the structural integrity of my hull?
Any help / advice would be much appreciated.
Thanks! |

Not unless they drilled holes in the hull. The deck should be fine _________________ Don't be an A$$ |

how could they mount it backwards?
repairing the holes and re-gel coating will not change the integrity of your boats deck or hull, ive seen entire hull bottoms replaced, i wouldnt let the same shop do it though, visit some dealers ask who they use. do you have photos? _________________ So are you still drinking?
No, thats behind me now, ...why are you buying? |

I don't think it will compromise the structural integrity of the hull or deck, but if it was my boat they did that to, it would most assuredly compromise the health and well being of the installer(s)! That is the pits and totally inexcusable! I hope you can find someone good to take care of it for you.

it shouldn't affect your boat at all. the great thing about fiberglass is that any repairs will be just as strong as the origional shape before the fix

I had the same thing happen to me. I didnt take it back to get re-worked though. I took into my own hands and called Titan on this. They were a big help.
I decided to just flip the rear hoop on the mounts and work with that. The last thing I wanted was to deal with fiberglass and gell coat. Fortunately, I didnt have to do too much work to get it to line up.
The first thing I did was to get the front and back hoops to line up. I was able to do this by adjusting the heim joints, primarily the front two. That was the easy part.
Next, I had to get the joining plates on the top of each hoop to line up in the same plane or atleast close enough to thread the locking bolt through. This is where Titan was a big help. I worked with a guy named Obie Miller. THis was two years ago. He sent me an email with some instructions and a picture of a home made device. Basically, you have to bend the plates up or down to get them in the right position. i had to move mine about 3/4 of an inch up. The way we did it was we sandwiched the plate between two steel block and clamped them down, we then took a long crowbar for leverage and pushed it into position. Yes, the powder coating cracked. I covered it with black spray paint and no one can see it.
It worked great and we have used it now with no problems for 2 yrs.
If you want, email me and I can go into more detail. I thought I kept the emal from Titan, but I cant find it.
Good luck. |

If you wanna job done right, unfortuntately I've found that often means doing it yourself. Or making a total ass out of yourself to get it done right.
Had my boat stolen in March, parts were in by late April and it wasn't repaired till like mid-July and even then it was a complete sh*t job. "Paid-off" that shop w/ my Visa just to get my boat back. Then called Visa and had them backcharged a few grand for crappy workmanship then fixed the rest of what I could myself and took to another shop to redo the fiberglass.
Still need to go in over and winter and have some of the gauges re-calibrated, and a little upholestry work...this was SUPPOSED to be a reputable shop too. |
