i got this from wakeworld
Parent company of O'Brien and Liquid Force runs out of money.
Date: 2/11/03
Author: David Williams
Two of the largest wakeboarding companies in the industry have had their doors closed by their parent company over the past two days. Earth and Ocean Sports, Inc. (EOS) claims to have run into a financial brick wall, which has necessitated the closing of Liquid Force and O'Brien, two of the world's leading sellers of wakeboards and watersports accessories.
According to a memo distributed to the Washington employees of Earth and Ocean Sports, Inc., the company will be "closing it's (sic) operations in their entirety as a result of an unforseen (sic) inability to raise necessary financing." The memo, dated 2/10/03, further states, "The process of shutting down the operations is beginning today. We expect that all employees will have their employment with EOS terminated over the course of this week."
The memo continues, "The closing of our operations and the terminations are taking place on such short notice due to the fact that the Company has been actively seeking financing that would have enabled the Company to continue operations. Unexpectedly, however, our attempts to raise the financing became unsuccessful, and we were unable to obtain the necessary additional capital required to maintain operations. In addition, as a result of not obtaining the additional financing, we are also losing our primary source of financing."
The majority of operations at EOS Washington were shut down yesterday and EOS California operations were shut down today. Affiliated retailers, team riders and reps have also been notified.
Commonwealth Venture Funding Group is the company that currently finances the operations of Earth and Ocean Sports, Inc. According to their website, "EOS was a management buyout that resulted from a divestiture of the consumer products businesses of its former parent company. CVFG provided the equity capital, engineered the company's balance sheet, and continues to have an active role in the management of all aspects of the organization, including the transition of much of the manufacturing to Asia in order to improve profitability and encourage more efficient use of capital."
Although rumors are rampant about what will become of the Liquid Force and O'Brien brand names and assets, there have been no decisions made as of this writing. Check back often for updates as details unfold. Also, look for an exclusive interview with Liquid Force founder, Tony Finn, in the coming weeks. _________________ slide it or ride it.
