deepbaywakeboarder, depends on the person usually and what they're comfortable with. Backrolls and Tantrums are the easiest to start with IMO.

iI'm getting ready to try my first flip and I heard that a backroll is the easiest. It's supposed to be easier than a tantrum because I heard it feels more comfortable.

The way the wake curves up, backrolls seem to spin by themselves without much effort. You actually have to learn to cut properly and how to throw tantrums before landing them. Some people catch on really fast, some don't.

I learned a tantrum first, but the backroll came easier to me. I just wasn't comfortable with the reverse cartwheel motion necessary for a backroll. Try both and see which one you come closer too...

i learned a tantrum first as well, but i haven't tried a backroll yet. it seemed to me that the tantrum rotation would be easier than the backroll, but a lot of people say the backroll is easier. i learned the tantrum by letting go off the rope when i was in mid-air just to see what it would feel like, and when i held onto the rope, it took me about 3-4 times to stick it. if you wanna try a tantrum, just cut in at a medium-hard edge, and right before the wake, flatten off your edge and square your shoulders up to the wake, and wait until you get pop off the wake to look back and start your rotation. try that
