Check out the Wailua River in Kauai. Several people live in the river with boats. Several years ago my dad just rolled up to some guy's house who had an inboard (this was before the days of extended pylons and way before towers). He had some skis and wakeboards and let us "rent" his driving for an hour. My dad skied a slalom course they had on the river and I got a couple wakeboard runs. It was really cool, just the fact that we got to ride in Hawaii. I know there's some people there now with wakeboard boats and "rental" services, so you'll just have to look them up when you get there. I could be wrong, but, as far as I know Kauai is the only place in Hawaii with a freshwater riding location. Obviously, it's gorgeous. _________________ Garrett Cortese

Waketech,
Are you just staying on Oahu or traveling to the outer islands? On Oahu, I can hook you up with my brother and/or some friends who ride at Keehi Lagoon or Kaneohe Bay. They use either a 2001 Pro Air or 2002 Super Air. Those are really the only two spots to ride on Oahu with chances of good water. There's a place in Hawaii Kai at Koko marina that you can rent time but the conditions aren't ideal because of the boat laws at Koko marina - no extra ballast allowed on the boat, have to run cirlces, and with the other boat traffic always coming through the water is hardly ideal.
Send me you info (name, age, when in December will you be there, will you have your own gear, etc) to my private email account and I will give you contact info.
The only other place to wakeboard in Hawaii is on Kauai, the Wailua River. My brother hosts one of the HWPA contests there each year. It's a really amazing place to ride. I believe the name of the shop right on the water is Kauai Watersports but I can double check with my brother. |

Waketech,
Forgot to respond about surf lessons. If you're in Waikiki, just look up surf lessons in the yellow pages, tons to choose from. Hans Hedeman's school is popular. Or you can ask the conceirge of your hotel for info. |

Ryan,
we will not know the exact dates until 2 weeks before departure but it should be the first or second week in December. When I know the exact date I will get in touch.
Thanks for the reply, talk to you later _________________ I Love The Smell of Butta In The Morning |

| Is R&R surf and ski still in business....I remember them helping out with boats way back when Hit It came out when Byerly and Cobe rode on some river that looked really sick. |

Waketech,
Sounds good, I will try to notify my brother and friends ahead of time to give them a heads up. Josh Sanders may be on Oahu during the first week of December on vacation, if he is, I'll be hooking him up with my brother to ride.
Brad, my brother Reid was the owner and shut down RNR Surf & Ski back in April after 8 years in busniess. He just reopened another office near Keehi Lagoon called Wakeboards Hawaii. He carries Hyperlite, No Fear, Blala wetsuits, Nautiques and other labels. But there is NO school or water operations affiliated with the new business.
However, we still try to hook up fellow wakeboarders when they come to town on vacation. As long as you have a rental car to get to the dock, chip in for gas money and help clean the boat after, it's all good. Most mainland people don't realize that you have to soap wash the entire boat after every use and flush the motor because of the salt water. People have just bailed after riding before and those are the ones that tend to not get invited back.

Ryan,
I live in Edmonton about 2.5 hrs from Calgary.... I also have another question to ask , My girlfriend and I are going to Hawaii and were are not that advanced yet...I just started doing backrolls and my girlfriend is just getting comfprtable riding. Does this pose any concern if we were to hook up with your brother. Basically I just want to get a couple of runs in and get some video of myslef and others boarding.
Anyway if you can you should head up to Sunshine Village or Lake Louise and get in on some early season snowboarding if you have time.

WakeTech,
No worries man, it's just about riding & having fun, not how good you and your girlfriend are. I would recommend though that you bring your board and bindings, maybe vest if it's a special size. Don't worry about a rope or wetsuit, etc.
I would love to be able to get to Lake Louise for some boarding. I've only been there in the summer time and it's gorgeous there. But unfortunately I will be there with the US Speedskating Team for the Sprint World Cup on Dec 6-7, so I will be very busy on this trip. Maybe next time though!

Heeter,
The last I heard was still no wakeboarding on Maui, but you may want to give kiteboarding a go. It's really popular there.
Have a great trip

| can you board on Lake Louise? It is so pristine I would guess they would have h.p limits at the very least. |

bruttenberg,
I highly doubt it, I believe only non-motorized boats are allowed but I could be wrong _________________ I Love The Smell of Butta In The Morning |

| WakeTech, I didn't see any boats when I was there... I think only canoes and stuff are allowed. I doubt they allow motorized boats. |
