Converting .bmp to .gif or .jpeg?

How do you do it? More specifically, how do you convert or save a simple "paint" file as a .gif or .jpeg?

open the file and then go to save as, at the bottom under the name title there should be a bunch of diferent formats but choose the one you want.

Yeah, I tried that. I'm not that stupid. I don't know why, but all it lists there are .bmp files. I can't post a .bmp here so I need to convert. I think I have a ghetto-a$$ computer.

have you tried saving it under something else? you might try my pictures or my documents if you ahve windows.

Tried it. All I have to choose from under file types is:
Monochrome Bitmap
16-Color Bitmap
256-Color Bitmap
24-Bit Bitmap

I am confused

only thing i can think of is save it as a bitmap and open with a different program and try to resave it in that program.

Paint will save as jpg, tiff, and gif. make sure your head is removed from the sand. Wink

I've tried opening it up with a different program, no luck. I just downloaded a new photo program that's pretty good and will convert files, but i don't think it's compatible with xp and might be causing problems, still trying to work it out. I think I'm just going to suck it up and buy photo shop Crying or Very sad

Russian, seriously, i don't think you're doing it right. the version of paint on XP will do it.

I use Adobe Photoshop, its super easy to do and the quality is high.

Go to www.download.com and type in image converter and select one of those listed.

do you have XP or XP Professional? I know XP Pro enables you to Save As and change it to .jpg, .gif, etc.

Ok ok let me clear this up...download some kind of free program for it even if it is just a trail version...then your regular paint should let you..try geting psp7 ...kazaa has it...just use it a few times with opening and saving a few files then paint will do it
