now you better put it in you sig like everyone else. If I was the one sponsoring you, I would have pulled your sponsorship already for not representing us like you should _________________

| It is marketing...Get your name out there as much as you possible can, give riders an entry level sponsorship (discounted merchandise oppurtunities) and it costs them nothing. I'm guessing that it's so that more of the public can see their merchandise and what not. It's more or less an attempt for them to boost sales. Lots of people will say it's not a sponsership because you're not getting free stuff, but if you look at other entry level things most of it is discounted merchandising for the rider. I'll be happy to sport their name and you cant go wrong with discounts. |

I still think of No Fear from the 80s and early 90s when they were standard issue for Rednecks w/mullets. They had some pretty cheesy slogans back then. Wouldn't suprise me if Kmart carried thier line.
I think they're doing a good job trying to change thier reputatation/image and have some clothes that look pretty tight, but I still won't wear it.
Maybe I'm too old now.
Get off on getting sponsored. |

i don't consider this a sponsorship. you can walk into pretty much any board shop and work a discount. tell them you will send them business if they hook you up with discount later in the year when you want to buy some gear. a discount doesn't cost them a thing, then they make money off new customers you send them. not a sponsorship! i think o.p. and gotcha are looking for riders too. hehe. _________________ Thats gonna leave a mark!! |

| It's your opinion on what you consider a sponsership. No fear is offering an entry level sponsership. Most entry level sponserships are discounts at wholesale or a little below. Then theres partial and full product. I guess it's all in your opinion, but I do know there are a lot of people out there who aren't good at wheelin' and dealin' so they are not as fortunate to be able to get products at discounted prices. |

We get along fine...actually I don't even know who "tantrum" is and I was in no way singling him out.
However,
I feel that No Fear is using these "sponsored riders" as a source of profit. They see these riders as contract-binding customers. Now that they are sponsored by the company, they must BUY and wear only no fear merchandice? Hmmm...maybe it's just me, but it seems like to me they are just mooching off wakeboarders who are stoked on having a sponsor, by forcing them to purchase their product on a discount. Yeah, the discount is nice, but remember, the stuff is so over priced that No Fear is making a bundle off of you people.
And just out of curiousity, do you have any relationship with the reps and employees of No Fear? It doesn't seem like it, and on top of that, how can you expect to have a legit sponsor who chose you on a basis of what you wrote for your "why i should be sponsored" essay...it would be soooooo easy to BS your way through the reasons you are a good rider for the company. I have absolutly NOTHING against the people who choose to represent No Fear, however, I do have a problem with a company that blatantly uses their sponsored riders as a direct marketing scheme. THEY WANT YOUR MONEY!
I appologize to anyone who took this in a bad way. I am just as stoked on the sport as each of you, I just feel like something is wrong with what they are doing.
Congrats on the sponsorship. _________________ Preston Duke

"I feel that No Fear is using these "sponsored riders" as a source of profit."
Everyone that represent a company is being used as a source of profit. Even Carrot Top is being used by AT&T as a source of profit. See the Wakeside banner? Wakeside is using Wakeboarder.com as a source of profit.
Sponsorship is about what you can do for the company...now what the company can do for you. When it boils down to it, it's if or how you can make a profit for the company you represent. _________________ my demo reel

im w/ jumalian on this one...all sponserships r sources of profit. i mean companies wouldnt sponser ppl if they didnt want ppl to know about their products. sponsers sport the gear so everyone can c it and say hey their sponsered by that awesome company im gonna go buy sum of their stuff.
and im n no way applying that these no fear sponserships arent real ones so to speak...im happy and jealous of anyone who gets it. if its a sponsersip then by all means its a sponsership and represent ur company...get ur free $h*t or discounts. way 2 go on gettin it and more power 2 ya.
just my 2 cents... _________________ N.e.R. |

i was making the implication that No Fear is making a DIRECT PROFIT from thier "sponsored riders". In other words, people who would have never previously purchased a no fear product are now legally binded to not only purchase but wear the product as well...
anyone with half a brain and any sense on how these things should work would feel sketchy about what they are doing.
oh, and don't tell me "it's not about what the company can do for you..." I know! I just don't beleive in supporting a company who is ripping it's "riders" off. _________________ Preston Duke

grady you are the EXACT type of kid im talking about in the other thread..."it's still cool to say your sponsored". WHO CARES IF IT'S COOL? and if you like being sponsored so you can say "hey, im sponsored", you are bad for the sport. _________________ Preston Duke
