Just be careful....
Good friend who does lots of fishing along the caost informed me that his Capt Buddy in SLO area, caught a glimpse of a Great White rumored to be the one that attacked that Lady a few days ago....about 19ft long Shocked

Anyhow stay safe...

Great white shark sighted off San Onofre

LOS ANGELES – Following a fatal shark attack on the Central Coast, a surfers and other beachcombers saw – and videotaped – a great white swimming near San Onofre State Beach, one of the most surfed places in Southern California.
State park officials posted a "shark warning" at San Onofre after the videotape confirmed the existence of a white shark in the popular surfing area, a shark expert said.
Dave Schulte, a local surfer, shot amateur video of a shark from a hilltop at the state beach.
"Over the past year I've seen that shark approach quite a few surfers, come very close to them without making any aggressive moves towards them," Schulte told NBC4.
Ralph Collier, president and founder of the Shark Research Committee, said he positively identified the fin sticking out of the water in the video as belonging to a great white.
"There has been a shark warning sign posted at Trail One (near the beach)," Collier said.
At least one large great white was "camped out" just south of the (San Onofre) nuclear generating plant, Michael Domeier, president of the Pfleger Institute of Environmental Research and a prominent white shark researcher, told the Los Angeles Times.
Domeier also positively identified the shark based on aerial photos provided by the U.S. Marine Corps.

The Marine helicopter unit based at nearby Camp Pendleton that shot the photos spotted five smaller sharks July 21 and have seen one or two larger sharks every few days since, as close as 100 yards from the beach, the newspaper reported. The sharks were said to be 15 to 17 feet.

Domeier told the newspaper he didn't want to alarm anyone, but after Tuesday's fatal shark attack on a woman as she was swimming near seals and sea lions off Avila Beach near San Luis Obispo, he thought the situation should be publicized to let people know about the sharks.

A lifeguard saw a shark more than once at Trail One, just south of the power plant, but he thought it was a mako shark, lifeguard supervisor Joe Layng told the newspaper.

Layng said he was not concerned about the shark.

"Those things aren't going to bother us," he told the newspaper. "No one's complained. There's no hysteria and no one jumping and screaming, 'Sharks!"'

Another shark researcher, Long Beach professor Chris Lowe, told the newspaper surfers were much more likely to be injured in a car accident on the way to the beach.

"That there hasn't been an attack really speaks toward the (low) probability of shark attacks – that these are really rare events," he said.

The shark attack in central California was the state's first fatal shark attack since 1994.

I wouldn't worry too much about the sharks though... Pretty rare that someone gets killed like that.

Heheh, yup, we have some big brutes down this way. Luckily we mainly see whales and dolphins in my bay.

The guys who really need to worry are people like Spin Dizzy who live in South Australia, shark attack capital of the world.

I surfed all weekend just south of San O and only saw a bunch of porpoises and a few seals.

No Great Whites though!

There have been many great white shark attacks in California, but most are up north in the "Red Triangle" near San Francisco and Stinson Beach. Shark attacks of any kind are extremely rare in SoCal, but as the seal and sea lion population increases there are bound to be more.

But you're still much more likely to be killed in a car accident on the way to the beach than you are by a shark attack at the beach.

Oh, and try not to look like a seal while you're in the water Rolling Eyes

Shark danger may close part of San Onofre

The state may temporarily close the waters off a small section of San Onofre State Beach to protect swimmers and surfers from the juvenile great white sharks that have been lingering in the area for days.

"We’re looking at this for public safety reasons and will make a decision by the weekend," Steve Long, a San Onofre lifeguard supervisor, said through a spokesman today.

Several great white sharks measuring 6 to 8 feet have been cruising the surf at Trail One, a popular surfing spot south of the San Onofre Generating Station, since last weekend. No surfers have been attacked. But some surfers said sharks have bumped their boards. Scientists say bumping can be a prelude to an attack.

"I’d advise people not to go into the water if there are white sharks there," said John McCosker, a San Francisco ichthyologist who is widely regarded as California’s leading expert on great white attacks.

"A 7-foot great white could weigh 350 pounds and could cause a surfer considerable damage if it attacked."

McCosker’s warning comes just over a week after a great white twice that size killed a female swimmer off the central California coast.

Great whites are periodically seen offshore. But it’s rare to see even one swimming inside the surf zone of a beach.

Stay in the line up, and near the kelp beds....you have nothing to worry about.....

talk about over-reacting!!! Try surfing Ano Nuevo State Park.........you want to see fins poking above the waters surface...... Laughing

Well first off... you don't wear a freakin black wetsuit and go swim with the seals... you are askin for it right there. The lady that got attacked had complete lack of common sense. Idiot!

Anyways... surfed Steamers Lane (S.C.) on Thurs. Pretty nice at 7am. Don't have to worry about being droped in on. Loved every second of it! Very Happy
