Sandboarding

A couple friends and I were going to go on a roadtrip to BC and Whistler at the end of this summer. We had the hotels booked and everything, but 2 of us are in the process of buying cars and we're trying to save as much money as possible. So, instead of going to Canada, we're gonna head down to Florence on the Oregon Coast. We're going to camp, and ride ATV's on the dunes. When I was trying to think of other stuff to do, I remembered an old commercial I saw where a guy was sandboarding. I thought it'd be fun to bring a board and use the ATV's as a lift. When I started looking up stuff on the internet, I found a link to the only sandboarding park in the world. It just so happens that its located in Florence. It's only $15 for a sandboard rental and use of the park is free. It sounds pretty cool. Has anybody ever attempted to do this?

ya dude i have tried it. i actually have a cabin in florence on mercer lake (that lake is awsome for boarding its allways butter.) I have been to that sandmasters place about 5 times. its hella cool there is like a mini jump park and stuff. the only thing is the sandboard park is in a place where sand dune buggies and atvs cant go. you can go other places than the park but i wouldnt recomend riding where atvs are allowed, just because there are too many people out there that have no idea what the hell they are doing. my cousin was almost killed by a drunk atv'er. if you have atv's try and find a spot where no one is because climbing up sand dunes all day is really tirering. honeyman state park is a hella good place to sandboard they have a huge dune that goes right into the lake! or you can just stay in the park. I hope this helps sand boarding is hella fun (especially if you have an atv.) And if your planning on going boarding definitly check out Mercer Lake, on a weekday there is maybe 5 boats out on the lake plus there is an awsome rope swing towards one end of the lake.

Did you rent a board? Or did you use an old snowboard? I have an old snowboard that I could use. I'd have to find some old bindings to throw on, but I think it'd work. I'd just have to get some sand wax.

Ive sandboarder before its pretty cool, me and my friends used to be able 2 360, we couldnt 180 though coz they board was asymetrical, but we could 180 drop in though. We made this ledge that was like 2m high to drop in off.

zach m: i rented a board. you cant use an old snowboard unless you get the special bottom put on it. you wouldnt go anywhere with out the special bottom. the people at sandmasters might be able to but I have no clue. but the guy there told me that you shouldnt use the snowboard kind unless you got an atv cuz the rides are pretty short and taking your bindings on and off can get real annoying. and just remember to close your eyes and mouth if you fall bro. peace
