I would guess 5-10k, but I am not a boat dealer. The first 5 years are usually the worst on a boat. Ski boats depreciate slowly after that.

gborgh, I'd say more towards the 10k, but he's right about the first five years.

malibu is different than MC and CC in the fact that their boats' msrp do not go up every year, which really does help you keep your resale value, so i would say in the ball park of 7-8 grand, if it is in immaculate condition. hope you arent dissapointed... Sad

This doesn't make sense does it? If the msrp goes up, the value of older boats becomes more desirable, increasing their resale. Or am I missing something?

Year 1 - 20%
Year 2 - 15%
Year 3 - 10%
Year 4 - 8%
Year 5 - 7%
Year 6 - 10 - 2-5%

After that, if the boat is kept in good condition, the boat will rise in value. Also, inflation will mitigate these effects. The market will also affect the value of the boat. If the boat/motor has a good rep, it will be worth more. If it doesn't, it will be worth less. If wakeboarding goes out of style and is "uncool" in a few years, the market will drop. Essentially, you have a commodity and the value will reflect the overall market.

A good case study is the late 80's CC SN 2001. They are now selling, well used, but in good condition, for about what they sold for when new.

Good Luck.

Thats interesting about the 2001s. Those are great boats for the money.

I'd say the best way to track your resale value is look up you boat on boattraderonline.com Thats what people are currently selling things for so if you find a couple instances of your boat you can get a ballpark.

prestique, did you read what i said? MALIBU'S BOATS, NEW, DO NOT RISE IN PRICE EVERY YEAR, AT LEAST NOT NEARLY AS MUCH AS CC AND MC. NAUTIQUE AND MASTERCRAFT'S BOATS DO QUITE A BIT. NAUTIQUE AND MASTERCRAFT'S BOATS HOLD THEIR VALUE LONGER BECAUSE PEOPLE ARE NOT GOING TO WANT TO DISH OUT THE EXTRA MONEY FOR A NEW ONE BECAUSE THEY BECOME MORE AND MORE EXPENSIVE EVERY YEAR, AND THEY COULD SPEND LESS MONEY ON BUYING A USED ONE THAT IS ONLY A YEAR OR TWO OLD, BUT IT WILL NOT BE MUCH LESS THAN WHAT THE FIRST BUYER PAID FOR IT NEW. No one on this board has bought new boats than me.
I can say with full confidence,, you can sell any boat near it's book value,, if it's not all banged and scratched up, it'll sell.

If the boat you buy suddenly becomes popular,, you can get what you paid for it.

I bought a Sea Doo 1800 Challenger some years back.. They got super popular in No Cali,, and the dealers soon sold out.
I got near what I paid for it after owning it 2 years.

I now have a Tige 22iR,, and it's selling used (if you can find one) near what I paid for it.
It's a newer design than most other wakeboard boats,, + it's got very popular, the Tige' dealers are sold out untill September,, so it's worth a lot.

Some brands are very common, haven't had a hull re-design in 11 years,, offer only just "Bold New Graphics", + the used market is flooded with that model,, and they're hard to get a good price for. Though you can sell it none the less.

Check the used market on what ever you're buying,, that'll tell ya what kind of hit you'll take.

My apology - I read it as "Malibu is different ... which really does help keep your resale value [of Malibu's]"

In that case, I agree...

prestiqe, its alright...i was just thinking you were flat out drunk or something! Mr. Green

flying tiger, thats not neccasarily true. around here, there is not a correct craft dealer within a 4-5 hour drive. we have had 3 SANTE's and they have sold within 4-5k of what we bought them for with 1 year of use on each of them. that being 3 to 4, 5 hour outings per week. thats pretty good, and they have had the same hull design for over 10 years i believe. great boats, and they are highly admired around here, making them very wanted for nearly any price.

another statistic i know well is that black boats sell for more in the resale market if they still look descent. we not only know this from the what we sold our 2 black SAN's for compared to our one all white SAN, but also from many, many friends that have had similar experiences. if you need more proof than that, search the internet, or ask any boat dealership.
