Was wondering what most of you use as the ground for the Amplifiers on your boats?

Well, I'm going to be running two batteries with an isolator between them. Will linking the negative from my main battery to my 2nd stereo battery
defeat the purpose of my isolator, since the isolator connects the positive of the two batteries?

use your neg terminal on your battery, I don't think it makes a difference even with the isolater. I could be wrong about it though.

The neg post like everybody else said. Make sure the wire gauge is large enough. I'm using only 6 feet of wire, so I'm using 8 ga on my little 100 watt amplifier. I've done several systems that used 4 ga or larger (about as big as a man's finger) The system is only as good as its weakest link

I'm having the dealer look into a humming noise I have on my Team Edition. I told them it sounded like a bad ground but they didn't seem to find anything wrong with it. Needless to say they are looking at it agin in the spring cuz it still hums....

The stereo hums when the engine is running, this is not right, I know that much.

The stereo in my OLD boat sounded great, never made a strange noise and I installed it myself. OH well.
I grounded to the battery like you guys mentioned.

PEACE OUT

When I used to work at a sound shop, we would find all kinds of ways that noise would get into a system: screws through signal cables, bad ground, groud loop, signal cables running next to power cables, bad circuit in a piece of equipment such as eq or crossover, bad or noisey alternater, electric fan, sparkplug or sparkplug wire, etc... There are several things that need to be checked. Each set-up is different. The easiest thing to do is temporarily run a new signal cable from the CD to the amplifier. Don't try to hide it or anything, just run it directly making sure to keep it away from any other electronic components or wiring. If the noise was caused by the faulty signal cable or proximity of noise emitting electrical component, it should be gone.
Good luck!

Also try to keep the ground wire as short as possible to get the best sound. It sounds dumb but it made a noticable difference in my sound qaulity.

A good ground is key for a clear stereo.
