Hey! I don't know what my prob is. I have no confidence with wakeboarding which makes me do worse. What do you do to bring your confidence up in and out of the water?

Just have fun and feel the flow. If you think about doing tricks, you won't do them. If your feeling it one day, just throw down. Don't force yourself to do stuff. Go out and have fun while out on the water.

i would just ride and take your time. dont let anyone push you to try anything new until you feel like you are good and ready for it. like anti-shoobies said, just chill and have fun.

Start riding like you really love it and even when it gets tough, just keep having fun.

i think the key to confidence is just to take a few falls then realize it really doesn't hurt.....thats how i started doing inverts, you just gotta eat it a few times and you realize it really isn't that bad, but yeh confidence is always an issue if you think your are beyond it just try to ride switch and throw your regular moves

I can totally relate to not having any confidence on the water.

I used to have X number of tricks, before I moved to Washington. I used to be able to really rail my cut down and haul ass into the wake w/o freakin' out. I used to be able to go out into the flats w/o thinkin', "this is gonna hurt."

I didn't ride for almost 3 mos. during the off-season...my first ever "off-season." I rode year-round in NorCal. Now, I'm struggling w/ basic stuff. I know I can do the tricks...it's just a matter of trusting myself, which I can't do right now. A lot of times, I can go out there and ride well, but no where near where I used to be. It's frustrating as hell!!!!

sure faceplants hurt, but if your buddies are filming it, then they get a good laugh and when you get back on the boat you can laugh too. Makes them less painful. Plus at the end of the season you can make a video of all your sick moves and your attempts to get there!

If I need to build my confidence, I go stick some tricks I know I can land. I'm still trying to get my 360s so when I first hit the water, I do some grabs and all the 180s I can think of. then I try the 360.

I can't say I've ever HATED wakeboarding but I've certainly had my frustrating days. It's the times when you know exactly how to throw the trick but you flake in the middle and end up crashing ten times harder. Peoples' riding would rock if the "self-preservation" portion of the brain had an off switch. Commitment is 90% of the game...remember that the next time you land on your head because you tucked to crash when there was no reason to. I'm as bad as anyone about it, too. Pisses me off some days when you're so close to something new but can't pull your head out of your ass long enough to throw it will some balls.

LaxChck: Does Chck mean chick?? If it does than I have a good suggestion about the confidence thing. If not then I have no idea because I have confidence issues too. I tend to overthink things more than just a little. Where in NY do you ride? Since you list lacrosse as one of your interests then I'm assuming it's somewhere upstate.

OK then. Now that you've told everyone that you're a chick, and you listed paintball, wakeboarding, snowboarding, and lacrosse as your interests, you will probably start to receive all kinds of flaughtering and possibly "confidence" boosting comments from the male members of this website. If you still need some more confidence, then try posting a picture of yourself wakeboarding (or playing lacrosse) on this site. That should do the trick. In an extreme emergency, invite some guys who wakeboard (possibly from this site) to go wakeboarding with you. I'm sure just about any male from this site would give you plenty of support.

Where do you ride? I ride around the north end of Grand Island in the East River.

Just to get the ball rolling:

As if just being a chick who wakeboards and actually tries to charge it wasn't enough. You also snowboard, play lacrosse, and paintball? You have to be one of the coolest chicks on this site in my opinion. Do you play organized women's lacrosse? I wasn't aware of any women's leagues or it being a school sport in the Buffalo area.

Hmmm..... not sure where that is. What kind of boat do you ride behind? What board are you riding? How long have you been riding? Since you're new to the site feel free to fill us all in so we can get to know you a little. Where are you planning on going to college?

im up in Ithaca if youre ever up there and need a pull, now for the main matter CONFIDENCE. I usually get my confidence from people who talk stuff about my riding, such as they say i cant ollie 2feet F*CK THEM, i do it. Have some door knob that can talk alot of stuff sit on the boat and just be like ya right girls can wakeboard let alone play ANY sports (these statements do not reflect the opinions of the poster nor the opinions of anyone he rides with Wink ) that usually helps

the more you ride, the more confidence you will have....before you know it , the things you struggle with now will become easy and you WILL progress. just keep riding and each time try and do a little something extra (like try to get more air, ride switch, or do different grabs, etc). you should be proud of the fact that you are out there trying so don't get discouraged and don't give up!!
good luck! Surprised

What are you going to be majoring in at Brockport? Have they approached you about LaX or will you be a walk on if you play?

Like the July issue of Wake Boarding mag said, "If you know nothing else in life, know you can nail this trick." That's what I tell myself during that little pause out in the flats just before I turn back towards the wake.
Oh, and rap helps, too.
Seriously, though, whirlygirl is right. Every once in a while it just clicks, and the moment it does is so huckin' sweet and it feels like your on top of the world. Never quit, I can only ride on a decent lake 3 hrs away for 6 days a year, but that doesn't stop me. The northeast needs more wakers. Chill and, as always, have fun with everything in life.
