There are a number of ways to go about this in California...

Here's a Flow Chart

Basically, if you fix the magazine then the gun is not characterized as an assault weapon and can have all those other features. Not really an issue as I can use stripper clips for the vz58.

7.62X39mm, as was the deal for Warsaw Pact countries. There are newer versions chambered for NATO 5.56. It's originally from Czechoslovakia but Israel and others have used it.

Thought I'd share my latest.

Early New Haven made Winchester M70 in 300 WSM. I took it to Montana with me and made meat.

I have a custom on order that is hopefully shipping sometime this month, but 6-8 weeks in July, turned into "next week" in October, and "I'm working on it this weekend" last week. Good thing he does impeccable work and I'm in no hurry.

jryoung, any reason you went with the WSM v. the regular 300 mag? The WSM seems to be more popular these days, I had never heard of it until after I bought my 300 mag (Tikka), that was about 10 years ago and I'm not even sure if the WSM was out then.

I've never been a big fan of the 300 win mag because of it's short neck length. I also love 7mm bullets and ballistics but again the 7mm WSM case for some reason the 7mm WSM has a shorter neck compared to the 300.

I've always wanted a M70 Classic (controlled round feed) and the WSM cases are a great match, eventhough the feeding issues are minimal at best when compared to non-controlled round feed actions such as the Remington 700. Ultimately it came down getting a great deal on the action and barrel and I just couldn't pass it up eventough I have a custom on order.

So far so good, but I have only put 10 factory rounds down the tube. My reloading dies get here next week and the real work will begin. I'm anxious to see what it can do, and figure out what size bullet it likes best.

Picked up a Mini 14 because our state legislature is trying to ban all centerfire semi-automatic rifles capable of accepting a detachable magazine. Just wanted a demonstration piece to show how absurd that assertion is.

An 80% AR lower paperweight I finished to 100%. Still need to get some parts but I'm close.

Nor*Cal,
Quote:

?

That's crazy, I have a rifle with a freaking 3 round detachable magazine (Tikka 300 mag). That would be banned under this proposal?

The problem is the people that want to do the banning are completely ignorant.

jgriffith, yup, and I errored in my statement as the legislation includes rimfire. So any semi-automatic rifle that is capable of accepting a detachable magazine.

vette74, I did it on a knee mill in about 90 minutes but we spent a lot of time bs'ing. If you have a CNC, I hear the program from 80-100% takes around 20 minutes or less.

Yup. DROS funds appropriated for confiscation of weapons in the hands of prohibited citizens was signed by the Governor today. I expect the others will follow the standard timeline and pass around August/September.

I had a free moment yesterday so I called Bontas office on AB 187 (10% tax). It realize I was pissing into the wind, but I couldn't help myself....especially after the staffer agreed that perpetual poverty leads to crime.

Picked up my furniture for the 80% build this weekend, ended up with a good deal on a magpul matrix kit. Just need a barrel. Contemplating a Noveske 13.7" with a KX3 flash suppressor silver soldered to it to get my 16" OAL.

Tactical Machining pre-panic.

I also have an 80% 1911 from Ares Armor that I'm building in 9mm and will be getting in a few day an 80% KTO 1911 and Rock Island Armory .45 parts kit. Also, have 80%s coming from Colfax tactical 2 - AR15 and 2 - AR10. Lots of builds in progress, lots of stuff backordered.

There are several machining companies offering buys on places like rockethub. Not sure of the assumed risk but might be worth checking out.

Picked this up at the local gun show last weekend. Never thought I'd buy a gun this small but I love it, and it just disappears wherever you put it making it easy to conceal.

Nor*Cal, barrel ideas:

CMMG (I have a 16" heavy with mid-length gas tube from them). http://www.cmmginc.com/category_s/1821.htm

Larue Tactical: their stuff is pricey but very nice. Didn't see separate barrels, only uppers. Maybe a phone call. Plus they're in Texas!! I know you'd pay extra just for that!

tball, thanks, I'll look into those companies. I do want to build a 20"/22" AR as well so those links provide some good options.

Let me know how it shoots! Been thinking of getting a pocket .380 for when my standard carry won't do. I do not like the side mag releases as big handed guys tend to accidentally eject the mag. My dad shaved down his Keltec and it seems to work pretty well. I think I'll look for a bottom release model.

Get's to come home tomorrow.

I recently won a Remington 700 Stainless in 270 WCF, Remington 887 Shotgun and Traditions Muzzleloader, I think I will be selling them and parlaying them into a new 20ga for the wife.

jryoung, you're on a serious roll lately with these purchases. I need to step up my game and find some extra income to catch up.

Is the Kimber on roster for CA or did you have to go through that single shot exemption?
