thanks leggester..
honestly, i was just throwing the ideas of a female president around. i have to agree that us chicks aren't as 'stable' (tho i dont think thats the right word, i can't find a better one) emotionally as guys, i think that someday there needs to be a female president. u guys dont kno how much it sucks to always hear 'u can't do that - ur a chick'. i think that if there were to be any female president, i think that hillary is one of the best candidates for it.
bmontgomery - u'll have to keep me updated on the world politics then i guess because i dunno where to get better stuff from..
jello - wasn't it maestro who sayd that we should just make it Lake Afghanistan to watch bin laden learn how to wakeboard? or somethin along those lines....??? |

I hope nobody was trying to come down on Aubs like Leggster said but I think the fact that she is even pursuing information about politics and foreign affairs says that she's about a hundred times farther than most people her age. Hell most people that are twice her age arent even interested in educating themselves enough to form political opinions.
Do I personally believe that we should try to push a woman into the presidency? No, but if it happens I hope it happens for the right reasons, ie I hope that she would be the best qualified to run our country. That's like affirmative action in it's current state. I personally believe that there has to be a better way to implement ideas such as affirmative action. I don't like the fact that if I were looking to get into a college I could be beat out by someone with less qualifications such as grades, for no better reason than they are in the minority. There has to be a better way.
Aubs you're right, I don't know what it's like to hear "you can't do that, you're a chick" but how will putting a female into the office make that much of a difference? I'm just curious, not pessimistic.
By the way, I also hate Martha Burke. Some things should just be left alone. _________________ Weight it, Gas it, Crank it, and just rip. |

| thanks supra.... i just think that by putting a female into such a highly respected position in the country will kinda push the whole equality thing a little further. if i remmeber correctly (might not, but i think so) the top 3 people of 2002 were 3 women in highly respected positions. i think that was a great leap forward in showing that chicks can kick butt. just by having a female to look up to of that stature is good i think... but i mean hell.. thats just my opinion |

As much as I would like to say conrgats, I'm just not sure those women are the type to look up to. Yes, they risked it all by blowing whistles on their own companies, but look at the outcome of those situations. Because of the fall of Enron and Worldcom, thousands of people who felt they were comfortable in retirement are now struggling to get by. People saw their 401k plans go from extremely strong to almost nothing in the matter of a few days. The economy definitely was affected by these three women and although we haven't seen the end of it, it hasn't been good so far. I would say that Condoleeza Rice would be a better candidate for person of the year and/or president. The Strides she has made in her position are almost unmatched by any other woman of our time.
I'd be interested to know what you think of this. "The first woman president will be more of a man than our past presidents" _________________ Weight it, Gas it, Crank it, and just rip. |

Cooper and Rowley have husbands who are full-time, stay-at-home dads. For every one of them, the decision to confront the higher-ups meant jeopardizing a paycheck their families truly depended on.
I wouldnt think they were starving to begin with one being the V.P. of enron and the other two's husbands not working. I wonder how much enron stock Watkins sold off before she decided to shut the company down?
I'm not trying to say these are bad people or discredit them but i think there is more to this story than we are hearing. |

supra ~ sorry, i kinda twisted my words around there. tho i think that those 3 are highly paid women with alot going for them, when i sayd 'looking up to someone of that stature' i meant a female president. sorry for that confusion. but yes, i agree with u that those 3 kinda did ruin many people's lives and financial plans.
i dont think that the first female president will be 'more of a man' than the past presidents, but i think that people will look at her differently than they do some male presidents. it will give a different perspective on things and the country in general.
i've never heard of Condoleeza Rice... who is she? |

I don't know if equality can be pushed any further, or if it should be.
Most work sites have many more benefits towards women than men. Also, the companies have to tread very softly around them.
For example. Why would you hire a person, knowing that in the next couple years they're going to require 3-4 months off due to pregnancy? Also, a scheduled 'rag' time? This makes many workers uncomfortable. Not only does the woman get special treatment, but she can act in an unprofessional manner and not be reprimanded for it.
Already, you get equal pay for equal work. Just like men, if you don't like a job, leave for another. Unfortunately, most women will complain and try to force the company to change for them rather than leaving and finding other work.
This has cost major companies millions in litigation fees. Thus passing those fees on to the consumer.
Don't get me wrong. My wife works in a technical environment with me and almost makes as much as I do. I also have 15 more years in the technical end of the job than she does, thus the higher salary.
Like Affirmative Action, Women's Lib has already gone too far. They do not want equality any more. They want special treatment and privileges.
Just some thoughts to ponder. |

Condoleeza Rice is the National Security Advisor. There's a short Biography on her here http://www.whitehouse.gov/nsc/ricebio.html
What the site doesn't tell you is that she earned her bachelor’s degree in political science, cum laude and Phi Beta Kappa, from the University of Denver in 1974 at the tender age of 19... Yep, she enrolled in college at the age of 15.
How would you like to have her resume? _________________ Weight it, Gas it, Crank it, and just rip. |

Leggster, I agree. I dislike how womens groups will show facts that men make more money than women. While I do see their argument, the undeniable facts are that they have the same opportunities for success as everyone else. At the local grocery stores pregnant women have the ability to park in the first spot in front of the store. I dont see anything like that for guys. (bad example, I know) but there are tons of things that women get that men dont. I think that the scales have been tipped in the opposite direction as far as equality goes. _________________ Weight it, Gas it, Crank it, and just rip. |

Here's a thought; leave the emotion out of it and base your idea on facts.
This way, no one can say " OK, that's nice. Now, here's the real story ".
Emotion and Affirmative Action, War and Equal Rights have very little to do with one another if they are going to work correctly. |

I dont mind emotion or opinions, it's the opinions of people who have nothing to base their opinions on that bother me. It's like the whole boat wars on here... I hate people that are like Tige's suck cause they're the worst boat. Back it up with something or say in my opinion, which is formed by riding behind a number of ski boats, that tige's are not the best boats on the market due to..... (I have nothing against Tige's, just an example).
Can't wait to hear it Aubs... I promise not to laugh. _________________ Weight it, Gas it, Crank it, and just rip. |

Leggester ~ can't tell the story without telling the affects on a person too...
Supra ~ here ya go! u might wanna sit back and relax for this one...
I'm gunna type this up and then go study like a mad-woman for my chemistry midterm that i have tomorrow. So here I go!! This kinda has more to do with equality than a female running for president, but you get the idea...
Ever since mankind was made, women have always been fighting for equality. Whether its voting rights, or equal opportunities for jobs, or even just respect, we have always wanted to be considered equal to men. Even though in 1903, Marie Curie's husband received a Nobel Peace Prize, the recognition for her hard work and dedication to all of his experiments was not given to her until years later. Decades have gone by, and sssoo many things have improved, yet a female president would just be another role model for young girls to look up to.
Though stereotypes are a little different, I think they can both relate. Women, are thought to be the weaker of the two sexes. They always have been. But even the simple stereotype of a blonde cheerleader can be pushed over the edge. I've had people tell me to my face that there was no way that I could be taking all honors classes and be a cheerleader. When I tried out for cheerleading last year, I had one girl laugh in my face when I told her that I was trying out for varsity. After the lists were posted, mine name was on the Varsity list, and her, being the only junior that is now on JV. Proving people wrong is what drives me each day. Anytime someone tells me that I can't do something because I'm a girl, or anything like that, I love just coming back a few days, maybe even years later and showing them what I've become.
Here comes the emotions now... Every summer, for the past 2 years I have been selected to be a counselor at a camp called Girls Rule at a science museum a few towns over. For one week, 30 girls from ages 8-12 are taught by 2 female teachers and 3 female counselors about science. We build model rockets and launch them in the parking lot next to the golf course (many funny memories from that), we make projects and end up covering the whole room, floor to ceiling with glitter, we even do awesome chemistry experiments. During this week, girls are taught so much and by the end of the week, it amazes you to find out how much they remember from the week. This camp gives some girls an opportunity to do things they never would have thought of doing at their age. I mean honestly, how many girls you know at 10 years old build a robot? One night during the week we have all the parents come in and have all the girls show them what they're learning and do a huge chemistry experiment together. Would you believe that I had a father come up to myself and one of the teachers and say, "It's only you women teaching these girls? There's no way that you've taught my daughter all this unless you sat there and read to her from a book." I wanted to scream. He said this straight faced with no sarcasm at all. My instructor politely informed him that "women know more about science than you'd think." He just said, "Oookkayyy..." and walked away. Do you believe that a father would say that? I cannot even imagine the encouragement that he gives her...
Bottom line is, no matter how hard we try, women are always looked down upon. Anytime a female is rewarded for her achievements, or attains a respectful position in her occupation, she is another role model for young girls to look up to. The more females that start pushing forward in life, the better chance we have for true equality. |

Well, I told you to use facts. You generalize male's.
You're wrong about "always looked down on" and "ever since mankind was made ... ..."
Sorry. You brought up ONE man, not the specie.
Look up Matriarchy, history and man's evolution.
Good story though.
( and my 5 year old DAUGHTER builds two and three stage rockets, hammers nails like a pro, when she was 4 did the major part of sanding restoring a 1970s water ski, on and on, ad naseum ) |

Aubs, great story. Seriously.
Although I don't agree with all of it, I believe people are entitled to their own opinions, at least now I know where you're coming from when you post. I just hope you don't view all males that way. Aubs, I'm not beingn critical, more of a critique. Really.
There have been more Matriarchies that you would think.
Also, men were 'bait' for predators whilst evolving. Women stayed at camp with the bambinos. Bodies evolved for different functions. Women for support ( they carry weight better ) and men for running and strength ( keeping ahead of the bad nasties ).
My point was if you let your emotions get in the way of actual research and study of this topic, you cannot express yourself in a manner that can be accepted. You seem to be jumping to conclusions based on a very few experiences/stories.
I thought it was a well written story and said so also. |

supra ~ no worries dude. there's only a select few that i would like to 'critique' lol. but for the most part, guys are great. i love most of 'em, but i just wish that some of them would just be a little more open minded.
leggester ~ im not letting emotions get in the way. there have been many more instances of this, but that was just one that got in the way. you must be a good dad to have such a cool daughter... |

I just think that our kids are not being educated on what's really behind our problems. There are two books that everyone should read called Militant Islam and Gathering Storm. They will shed alot of light on things. We live in a great country and it's healthy for us to have different opinions! |
