Dont name your boat, its just 'uncool' seriously, how are you going to be hardcore with a name on your transom? Do you see the pros with names on their boats? No. Do you know why?
Because it isnt their boat.
Seriously, fuel, in my opinion, you hit the nail on the head. If you want to name your boat, go ahead, its a personal thing. Do what you want to do, and if someone doesnt like your boat with a name on the back, or thinks its gay, then f*^k them, their loss. (i hope the sarcasm was detected earlier). Go and name it, if i was better with the english language (i know 22 years on this planet and i still suck at english) i would suggest something.
Anyway man enjoy your boat, whatever you name it.
