Makes sense. This is how I will approach it if it gets to be too much.

I use the Chavez theory. I also value my time with the family since I work similar hours to you and more at certain parts of the year. That's why we hire out the yard and house cleaning. When the summer rolls around I want to go to the lake, zoo, park, etc. not mess around in the yard. If it's not family time, then I'm probably billing someone.

For $450 a month that grass should look like a nice golf course. Whatever you do don't hire the people that used to take care of it.

For me, i enjoy mowing on a riding mower. I save some time by edging and trimming every other week instead of every time I mow.

I have a entry level husqvarna backpackblower. It works great and was only $200 new, should be plenty for your yard.

I live on three acres and I have a 60" Exmark commercial mower, Stihl FS90, and a stihl blower. I really don't mind zipping around on the ZTR as it only takes about an hour or so, but weedeating and blowing sucks. About a year ago my wife sent a lawn guy over to ours to trim, edge and blow around our house and yard for $40 and they have been doing it ever since. Yesterday, I asked the guy if he wanted to stay an extra hour/hour and a half and use my mower for $50. He seemed happy to accept. So now, I have 3 acres mowed and trimmed for $90 a cut. Not bad. He's making $30/hr, so its a win/win I suppose.

Looking forward to moving to my place in the country one day where the only lawn I'll mow is with a batwing! Smile
