LFwake51993, why were you wakeboarding at 35 mph? _________________

thanks for the info guys, i wont be anywhere near crab pots as i dislike salt water very much and will never go in it
oh yea...I know this is a little off topic but since it's my thread gues i can do what i want...
since this is the first boat i will be driving (19' bayliner capri with ford cobra engine (I/O)
can i flip this thing? I was in my buddys V-drive (b-52) and he had to turn around to pick up our fallen wakeboarder and IIRC he "floor'd" it and made a very tight U-Turn, boat seemed to handle it well and it felt really cool.
So if I were to try that can I flip this boat? and how do you usually attack incoming waves--like if they are coming to me at an angle should i try to hit them head on or "roll" through them at the best angle... |

I hope that this isn't routine for him. While you might might think its cool, it sends rollers everywhere, making the water unusable for anyone else.
It'll probably not flip as easy as you seem to think it might, but I would still reccomend that you might want to look into a boater's safety course if you are new to boating. It's a good course, and you might get an insurance discount too. |

rowlex, as far as oncumming waves try and hit them dead on, if not an angle will not do anything, if you are paralell with the rollers, be careful, I have done that, but nothing bad happened, we were goin 50 (not pulling anybody) and I almost crapped my pants _________________ 04 LF Trip 133

ok thanks guys
I know it sends rollers and is not the correct thing to do... I was just curious if higher speed sharp turns will make the boat flip |

Knees will be the most common injury...
but actually this summer I was teaching this girl how to ride (my co-counselor) and it was her first time and she was super good (she snowboarded before) and she wanted to get some air. So she fell her first couple of tries but then landed on her 4th attempt and got about 2 feet of air! She was so stoked though that she tried again and went a lot bigger... fell... and end of story had to go to th hospital to get staples in her head because when she fell one of the bindings released and the momentum of the board followed through and smoked her head. To add insult to injury it was a CWB Flame that she was riding and they have jagged tips and part of the tip of the board snapped off and they had to take the little piece of board outta her head... it wasn't pretty but 2 days later she was back in the water!
Gotta luv a girl who is a trooper like her. |

wow man that sucks!
seems a lot like it would be best to have bindings that dont slip off easily. Do they make bindings like this? Would it be a good idea? |

I have old velcro bindings from only god knows when, they have never falled me, except comming undone while edging, but most of the time if I fall, I come out all the way, but have to chase down the board, One foot comming out and one staying in has never happened to me in my 5 seasons of experience, honestly its never even crossed my mind _________________ 04 LF Trip 133

LFPIMP, I think it's time to upgrade your shoes.
rowlex, For beginners, you may want bindings that release somewhat easily. However, as you learn how to crash better, you'll want bindings that don't release on a fall. _________________

| I'd have to agree with almost all the reposts above... Knee injuries are almost bound to happen. I have had only a few incidents which wouldnt be called injuries but one time i landed wierd and the tip of my board came over me and hit me in the head...which is why i now ride with a helmet. Another wierd thing that happend is i was riding and fell face first (amature mistake) and my eye lid flipped inside out. But yeah you need to watch out for gettin caught up in the rope and knee injuries are a killer. |

the worst thing that has happened to me was my back, and i just kept on hurting it everytime i crashed on a backroll, on tantrums i have busted my mouth pretty good against my knee and one time i landed on my head and everything looked green for a while, other than that a few headaches and soreness _________________ She will be mine, oh yes, she will be mine. |

I still think busted eardrum and ribs are most common. Well those are my injuries...
As to I/O handling, hitting rollers trim in and just as you're hitting the wave throttle up, well I'm sure there is courses for boat handling in your neighborhood, take one you'll learn allot! And you and everyone else on the lake (you said you did not like saltwater (=seawater for me).
Enjoy your time on the water, whether it's in the boat or on the wakeboard!

| As for the how tight the bindings should be arguement, my opinion is not coming out is better. I have always tightened my bindings as tight as they will go and in 7 years of riding, I have only gotten 1 mild sprain in my ankle using that method. |

| I had someone attach the line poorly to the back of the boat. When I was about halfway up it came off and snapped back. I don't really know why but the sudden loss of forward pull made something in my hip pop and I had trouble walking without a sharp pain for a couple weeks. |

My worst fall so far has been getting 'stuck' in the air with my back to the boat while doing 3s...catching that back edge, then having the back of my head slap the water. Day long headache, some blurred vision for a bit, and a sore neck.
A buddy who used to be pretty good was doing 540s. He missed the trick and one binding released and the other didn't. A knee surgery and rehab later he's vowed never to ride again |

There are a couple of threads going in General Wakeboarding right now that will clearly answer the original question posed by this thread. |

Even if you don't pull a muscle or break a bone, hitting the water when you're going fast hurts a lot. Sometimes you feel a crash a few days afterward. (I'm speaking from expeirience on a slalom ski, lol, and I'm sure it hurts just as bad on a wakeboard.) _________________ Ride hard or go home.
