Desktop is a 2.6 p4 with 500gb of hd's (1 inside 1 external) all wireless ADSL hooked upto the home bluetooth network.
Laptop, 3gig P4 with 512 RAM and 80 GB drive, wirelss ADSL and ont he bluetooth network.
I tell you.. you can't beat sitting in the hammock in the garden watching a DVD, chatting on msn and printing random insults to whoever is sitting in the study indoors.
On a side note.. I'm thinking of leaving windows XP Pro and going Linux.. any pros and cons.. I know i'll lose photoshop which will be a pain.. but is anyone else here running linux? _________________ www.AxisBoats.co.uk | www.Malibu-Boats.co.uk |

Brit-
Why not to go mac os X? Its unix based so you can still do a lot of linux type stuff, but you get all the benefits of having a mainstream OS. You can edit your videos, use photoshop, etc... _________________ 1989 Supra Comp TS6M, 06 GLI for haulin'.

Built myself, and works for what I need, but this was definitely a budget computer. I work at Best Buy and got a killer deal from Intel on the mobo and processor, so I got a P4 3.0 w/ HT and some generic Intel Mobo for like 200 bucks and this was a year ago. Plus it came with windows xp pro, so I couldn't pass that up. I threw in a gig of pc3200 ram, a 250gb hd, a geforce fx5700 ultra 128mb graphics card. I think everything else I use is onboard. I got an open box deal on a NEC 17 in LCD monitor with a fast ass refresh rate. Can't remember exact prices, but after chocking my system full of pirated software, I spent around 900-1000 dollars this time last year. Not too bad of a system, also price reflects my best buy discount which is basically cost on the product plus manufacturers offer a ton of rebates and purchase programs for retail employees.
oh yeah, I got a dvd burner and dvd drive.
pros-
cheap as hell
pretty damn fast
edits video like a mofo
cons-
bad cooling bc i bought cheap case and loud fans
need another monitor, but im broke bc i bought a premier on some temet boots _________________ -Nick

89comp, sick setup. except for the phonebooks and stuffed horses
anybody know of a place with decent prices on VESA wall-mount brackets? they're moronically expensive everywhere i've looked (up to $120 each). i'm trying to find something around $20 each that does more than just tilt. |

Desktop1/Windows Box- Alienware Area 51: P4@3GHz, 2GB DDR 400 RAM, 120GB Serial ATA HDD, Geforce FX 5800 Ultra (128MB), SB Audigy 2 piped through discreet channels via Klipsch 500-watt Dolby Digital 5.1 THX certified sound. Monitor is a Dell 1901FP digital Flatpanel.
Desktop2/Linux box- Dell Dimension XPS 700T: P3@700Mhz, 512MB DDR RAM, 60GB (or so?) ATA drive, GeForce 2 Ultra (64MB), SB audigy (original), going to nothing, and I'm using the analog channel on the 1901FP as a monitor. oh yeah... tons of dustballs in this thing.
Server- Dell Poweredge 1600SC .NET server 2003 w/ SQL 2000: Dual Xeons@2.8GHz, 1GB RAM (DDR 333?), 3 36GB ultra 320 SCSI 10,000 RPM drives in my primary RAID 5 array and another 3 Ultra 160 variants of the same drive from my old server (also in a RAID 5 array). No sound (hey! its a server!), and some 8MB onboard ATI video. No monitor- managed via remote desktop through terminal services. HDDs are controlled by a 32MB Dell PERC3 RAID controller.
Laptop- Dell Inspiron 9100: P4@3GHz, 1GB DDR 400 RAM, 60GB 7200RPM ATA drive, ATI Radeon 9700 (128MB), onboard sound, 15" wide-aspect LCD, 802.11G wireless. I also like to call this thing my "lap heater."
everything is tied together via a Gigabit switch that also does my NAT, 11g wireless, encryption, and firewall.
who got served?
I'll serve up some pics later, for anyone who wants. _________________ I eat Vegans. Medium-Rare.
