IMO he is not guilty in FL due to the stand your ground law they have in place. If this had happened in another state I believe he would be headed to prison for 2nd degree murder, minimal manslaughter. I'm all for the castle doctrine but stand your ground seems a bit far fetched. I always thought that a response with like defense is fair. A punch for punch. But to pull a gun and shoot someone down that is throwing a punch at you seems and have it be legal seems a bit of a stretch to me.

Seems like the verdict was correct, based on the information we've received. If they really wanted to get a conviction, maybe they should have gone after a lesser charge. It's a shame to see the reactions and riots along with the push for it being a racial issue.

I think Zimmerman was wrong for confronting him. Observe and report, defend and/or confront only when necessary. However, to say, generically, that it is unreasonable for a person weighing xxx lbs to use deadly force when physically attacked by another person weighing a lot less and younger is not appropriate either (you ever watch some of the early UFC events with no weight class?). Especially when the younger, lighter person may have tried to get the gun for himself.

I don't know what really happened.

There is no proof, nor does Zimmerman claim that he confronted him at all.

There is no evidence, nor any witness testimony, that indicates that anything other than what the defense claims, and what Zimmerman told police during initial questioning... that he was on his way back to his car after being told not to pursue by 911, when Martin turned and confronted and then assaulted him.

Martin was less than 70 yards from the house where he was staying.

I think it is very possible that Zimmerman was railroaded by a prosecutor seeking attention, and the martin family's attorney. The more I read about the original statements to police and the more I learn about influence applied to the police department and by whom, the more I think Zimmerman was railroaded by unscrupulous people.

However, again... I was not there, nor was I in the courtroom.

I think that the usual group of celebs who I often agree with, including Bill Maher, should stop making ignorant statements about it.
