War makes the world go round and round.... it always has....the cycle will never end....

This is about so many things more than just Oil...

My thoughts are, if we think this will go away we are in for a rude awakening....let's take some preventative measures.

What did daddy teach you before he sent you off to school, avoid a fight at all costs, it gets you no where but in trouble but if the situation is still unavoidable after all your efforts kick the stuff out of the kid so everyone knows not to f with you again.

I say it's time to start swinging!

Jdogg,
My father taught me just to kick the stuff out of someone at the first chance of trouble... work the rest out later.

Just a point about the "whistle blowers" who were the Time People of the Year. So you guys are saying they aren't that great because what they did caused lots of people to lose their jobs and retirement accounts? Are you serious? That's like saying someone who reports a murder they witnessed is responsible for the murder!

They weren't the ones that caused those companies to be so financially messed up and corrupt. They just exposed it, and it took a lot of courage to do so. It would have been exposed somehow eventually, and the situation would have been much worse the longer those companies existed the way they did.

Wow, I go out of town for two days and come back to four pages of "Thoughts on War." Let's see, where to start...

Partyb...You're crazy if you don't think Saddam represents a threat to our freedom. He's trying to create weopons of mass destruction. Why? Just so he can say to his friends hey check out this cool stuff I've got? No, I think its so that he can use them, or at least threaten to use them and therefore impinge upon freedom. Part of the reason we have not blown him to hell yet is because there's only so much we can do at once. After 9/11 Bush did the right thing and evaluted the situation and prioritized a program not only to respond to that attack, but to pre-empt future terrorist attacks. At that time Afghanistan (and al-Quada) respresented the most clear and present danger. Sure, we could have attacked the whole "axis of evil" at once, but then we would have been spread to thin and less effective overall. Gotta take it one step at a time. Now its Iraq's turn.

I agree with many others on this board that the American public does not have the benefit of complete information, nor should we. Bush, Rumsfield, Rice, Powell and Cheney are not stupid. You may not agree with all of their political points of view, but the fact is that they have more information than we do and are better positioned to make decisions regarding what's best for the American people. Good grief, that's what they're there for. You may not have voted for Bush, but he's in office and it's his job to do what he thinks is right. Let's let him do it. I thank God everyday that Gore is not in office and having to deal with this situation. He could take a scud missile up the ass and still would want to try to talk things through and solve things diplomatically. Can't be done.

Let's see, what else...

Leiberman...he's a joke.

Hillary...she's a gutless opportunist. She's as big a crook and lier as Bill. What a pathetic woman.

Aubs, I think that a female president someday would be great, but it has to be on merit, not simply because it would be good for girls to be able to look up to her. You need to listen more to your uncle and get a different female role model.

Pat, right on with your post about the whistle blowers...couldn't agree more.

Forgot to mention that I would strongly consider voting for Kay Bailey Hutchison or Condoleeza Rice for president. They are both awesome women and are probably strong enough to block out any "female emotion" that might interfere with sound, rational decision making.

Pat, I see what you're saying and I am not going to argue that what they did was necessary. The companies had these problems and would sooner or later be exposed in one way or another. The point that I will argue until the day that I die is that it is stuff that these three women should be appointed to be Time's Persons of the year. My feelings about the Persons of the year is that they should not only have had extremely powerful struggles in their lives, but I think that the effects of those struggles should have a completely positive influence in the lives of others. In these cases, the action was justified and necessary, but the short term outcome was a catastrophe. I don't think your analogy of the witness of a murder is correct or applicable in this instance due to the fact that the murderer and the victim are wrapped up so closely that they almost appear to be one. All I'm saying is that thousands of people are jobless and homeless now. I know that it's not a direct fault of any of these women, just saying that there are better candidates for persons of the year.

Ya but Supra that's your opinion of person of the Year. (Which you are fully entitled to.) while I probably wouldn't have picked them either I think that what they did do will be good in the long-term. Honest business is mutually beneficial. Some people are suffering now because of their actions but in the long run this will hopefully make corporations throughout the world better. It's not like they are the first whistle-blowers but boy did they change the world. Now that I think about it they are good choices for Person of the Year.

big ~ u won't kno who can block out emotions until they face a problem and their decision can save/ruin the country... its hard to judge who is the most mentally stable in situations like that. tho my uncle is a great guy - i like hearing both sides of a story/problem before i decide which side i agree with. otherwise u might be rooting for the wrong person...

Aubs, the only reason I made the comment about "female emotion" is because someone else in an earlier post thought it should be considered a factor in whether or not a woman would make a good president. Personally, I'm not sure if that's a viable concern or not.

As for listening more to your uncle, I was just messing with you. You are right to seek out all viewpoints and then form your own opinion. You are wise beyond your years aubs.

N Korea doesn't bother me as much for reasons that I've already expressed in an earlier post on this thread.

There are things all over the news saying that we're going to begin attacking around mid feb-mid march... Supposedly we're going to launch 600-800 cruise missles in the first two days. Thats more than double what we launched during the entire 40 days of the first conflict in iraq. Doing this is supposed to completely demoralize the entire country of Iraq. We're hoping that they just give up. Then again I got a lot of that info from the media and for all I know we could be doing the exact opposite.

Aubs, us wakeboarders have a big pull in Washington... haha no pun intended.

well im from the middle east and i hate saddam! but war is not the way to go!
the empact of war would be that americans will have more enemies around here, and less friends in europe. + who wants another 9/11?????? and as someone said above, this may start WWIII!
i think the way to go is to play it smart, with the intellegnce you americans have, you can befreind saddams enemies, sent a special force to iraq and get rid of the mad man! just like the movies, it can be done! like that less poeple will be hurt and everybody will live peacefully!

if we declare war i support our decision if not i still supprot our decision. the people who are responsible for declaring a war have way more information than we'll probably ever know and im sure that out of that many people personal benefits are not their reasoning for their decisions.

I guess I have to weigh in here on several topics....

1) WAR - While I will be the first to admit that going to war is probably enevitable here, I think that we should make absolutely sure that all diplomatic resources have been exhausted prior to launching that first cruise missle. At some point here in the near future I can see the war happening because W has to call Saddam's bluff at some point. It really scares me though the impact this war will have due to the already deflated economy and the way the oil industry is currently. I know we can all expect huge jumps in gas/oil prices during the war and then very deflated ones when its over. This could be very crippling to the oil industry (one I'm in).

2) THE WHISTLE BLOWERS - While I may not agree with them being People's Persons of the Year what those three did was one of the bravest acts I have witnessed lately. I am intimately familiar with the Enron scandal as I had several friends who were casualties of the layoffs. Imagine putting yourself in the position of the lady who blew the whistle on Enron - those are some VERY VERY powerful people she stopped and collapsed their little empire. I myself could not imagine doing that. The REAL crime here is that those people who ruined thousands of lives building their own fortune have not yet been sentenced to some serious prison time.

Just my $.02

Hishy, what do you think we've been trying to do since the Gulf War? It obviously isn't working. This war isn't about oil it's about Bush and others seeking to protect us from what they see as a threat. It will also likely improve the lives of thousands of people under a disgusting regime. I cannot understand anti-war people in this matter. What are your arguments against?
It's about oil: So what? People quit living in fear
Bush just wants to fight war: So what? People quit living in fear
We put Saddam there in the first place: So what? If anything we owe it to the Iraqi people to get rid of Saddam
Whatever your anti-war reason is I don't think it will ever justify the fact that we are not helping people who's lives are constantly in danger.

I work in the oil field back home and that's all my family has done on both sides since my grandparents. It's times like these that make the oil business the great thing that it is. If the oil field was a stable economy it would be just like any other industry. But since it's not this is how people go from rags to riches and become millionares. When the oil field busts buy all you can when it's doin good save all you can and wait for it to bust so you can buy more. It always comes back bigger and better than before. If it wasnt for the busts the small family man would never be able to make it big. It's one of the last industrys that the american dream takes place in every day. I dont know of anyone that has worked hard and saved their money in the oil business for more than 20 years that isnt a millionare today. 90% of them dont have college educations. They may not be doin good in a year but then they will have even more than they had before if they stick with it through the bust.

This is a good time for us Raider if you plan for it. All times are good in the oil business if you look at it right.

Who do you work for and what do you do? just wondering.

Yeah you're right Wes but they are just very uncertain times in "The Patch".

I work for National Oilwell - we supply oilfield equipment worldwide. I worked way out west in Odessa at the old Gregory Well Services building when I was there.

Now I'm based in Dallas.

We're more on the drilling side. Basically anything needed to drill an oil well. Here's a couple of pics. One is a rig I was the project manager for and the other is a piece of equipment I designed.

I think that the war is gonna happen no matter what. Also i dont think that the whole reasoning is for oil. Suposedly America only gets 12% of there oil from iraq. Bush has a good reason to go there. This guy is trying to take all our freedom and what is good to us away. Im also sure that there are things that we cant be told that is going on over there. I think that there will be war by next monday for sure, and hope fully after a few cruise missles get in there saddam will get out.
