I was just noticing how dead the boat forum is- I'm not sure if that's a statement about the community generally or if the manufacturer specific forums (malibucrew, planetnautique, etc.) are at this point a better resource for owners.

DRAGON88, or the fact that half of the USA is frozen.

But yeah, in general it's slowed down quite a bit.

I don't think the last 6-7 years have been marvelous in the large ticket indulgence category.

It really is amazing the transformation of the Portland market since 08.

Active has Natique, Malibu and Supra/Moomba lines. No conflict there Rolling Eyes

speaks volumes to the viability of stand alone dealer, which I am sure they all would prefer.

eeven73, the dealer consolidation here that really blew me away was not watersports-specific...

Down here, Roseville Honda/Kawi/Suzi folded, and about 9 months later, the Yamaha dealer (one of the best in CA, esp for service) became Roseville Yamaha/Honda/Kawi/Suzuki. Nope, no conflict at all.

It does speak tremendous volume to a dealer of high-ticket discretionary (predominantly) items. There just isn't enough of the pie to go around these days in that narrow segment.

Maybe since the HELOC party days are behind us, boat ownership is not as prevalent, I knew several owners back in the day that probably should have just been riders. Neutral

At least Active isn't going to sell your boat while it's sitting in their lot waiting to be serviced... Shocked

The other obvious explanation would be that people have moved onto facebook and other social networking platforms instead of specialized forums like this. There has also been a huge drop off on the Audi forums as well in the past 2-3 years.

Have you seen what a nice wakeboard boat costs now compared to 2003? My dad bought a used Malibu VLX for $60k a couple of years ago. That would have come close to buying a new SANTE in 2003.

I forget the exact sticker price, but I think our '05 SANTE maxed out was $58k? I don't love the wakes anymore, but I still think it's the best looking wakeboard boat made. I hope to own one again someday.

Some dealers are telling me this has been the best boat selling Jan and Feb in a long time. But I still think most dealers are at 1/2 or 3/4 of what they were selling before the boat crash of 2008.

I am going to buy a new(er) boat soon...trying to get a startup off the ground first.
Otherwise I would be actively looking.

I won't be spending over 50ish which is pretty easy if you don't care about surf-o-tab-o-matic 5000 systems.

2nd gen SAN, Axis, VLX etc. are tops for me (22ft and under) 2008 to 2010

That's really good to hear. I wonder if we'll see a shift back towards trying to open the market up again with more offerings in the $40k-$60k range.

I was hanging out with Scotta and K-dub either right before or right after MasterCraft decided to cut ties and pull out of Copes in 2008. It was amazing to see how quickly that whole dealership network unfortunately collapsed.

During that same trip, Greg Nelson showed up and asked me to vacuum the pro shop because he assumed I was an employee. Laughing

Lower 40's OTD on my '03 SANLE on tandem. Maybe mid, could have been lower 40's pre tax... Confused

I look at what boats are going for now and shake my head... Really, it blows my mind.

Axis did come in at the 40K range and are still in that 40-60+ range. I think Mastercraft is launching a new boat this year in that range? Not positive but I thought I heard that.

Seriously makes me laugh to think about paying 40-50k for a bargain boat...probably 50-60k? when you really build one....?

It's relative, like when I tell my father what I paid for my truck... But I'm never buying a new towboat..... Laughing

Wow, that SAN... she's a beauty!

Yes flixmaster, Mastercraft is advertising their new NSX as "$50K all day long".
Indeed it's ridiculous that 50K is now considered cheap or "price-point".

Hey wait... are we talking boats here? Is that even allowed anymore?!

Epic was originally aiming for the $45k range too IIRC, but they got their feet in the door just as the collapse begun. But maybe manufacturers don't see a point in building a $40k boat, because at this point you're better off with a 3 year old VLX or SAN?

The cost of boats being what they are, I'm really hopeful that the CA cable parks that have begun popping up will help save the sport.

I also heard that MC will be launching a 20' budget boat, which is based on the old 205 hull that we all know so well. And (supposedly) they're making the gunwales thinner so the boat will feel wider. But my source on this is not quite that solid, so take that with a grain of salt.

There's one open north of Sacramento, and another scheduled to open within the year (also near Sacramento). Still waiting for one to open near the bay area/delta.

I had not really experienced the consolidation in other products dealers, I am sure it is happening. It will be real interesting when it unwinds. I can't imagine Malibu and Nautique are real thrilled with sharing a dealer, not to mention Supra/Moomba.

At the PDX boat show this year I noticed that they are making lines of PWC out of injection molding instead of fiberglass which allowed them to be priced in the 6K range. Thought that was an interesting development that I would imagine may make its way to a budget boat.

Maybe the boat forum is dead because an entire conversation about boats just took place in the non wakeboarding forum.

I was flat out floored with the cost of season passes. Hopefully a little competition will change things.

Nor*Cal, I think the competition will be good for both Wake Island and the new place, but I think cable parks are just expensive in general. OWC charges $1200 for a pass (though they are open for more than half the year...). Not that I'm lining up to ride at either one.

I would love to pick up another boat and get back in to riding but the cost of fuel has pretty much killed that. Spending 200-300 per trip to the lake is a killer.

Propane.
In the Netherlands (fuel prices probably triple or so from the US) you won't find an inboard without propane.

Thanks, but if wagon = marriage and kids you're about 8 years too late on this comment.

Sadly, I am the sole wagon enthusiast in my family. I tried to talk him into a really clean S4 a month or so ago, but he wasn't interested. Confused
