Games are discussed in a few threads... but how about a dedicated thread?
I'm sure it's been done before, but this one will be more current.
If you're going to post about a game, don't just say, "i liked it... it was cool." Tell us why it was rad, or why it was a waste of money.
my gamertag = numbfoot7
My current favorites are.....
-Halo 3
-Skate.
-Bioshock
-Dirt
-Guitar Hero 3
Out of all the games I've ever played online, Halo 3 has the best online gameplay. Nothing else comes close. Campaign has been pretty fun so far, but I think that the strength of this game is online play. IMO the graphics are good. Definitely a step up from Halo 2.
IMO EA's Skate put the Tony Hawk games to shame. Online gameplay is normally really good. (but for the last couple of days it has been lagging like no other). Challenges are getting a bit tedious... realism declines as you get better and do harder challenges. I hope they make a snowboarding game.
If you're into 1st person shooooting games, and creepy sh|t, Bioshock has you covered. I love the horror element it has, and it's a decent shooter game. Mega fun to play at night with good speakers turned up.
Dirt is a good mix between racing simulations (Forza) and more unrealistic racing games (midtown madness). It's a rally game with a few different types of vehicles. The thing I hate about it is having to race the stupid huge trucks. Those piss me off. The damage factor is raddd, and it takes a good amount of skill to play higher difficulties.
Guitar Hero 3... seems a little harder than #2. Could be that I'm just not as familiar as the songs yet. Online game play seemed a little weak, but it's cool that it's possible. I wish I had a wireless guitar... I still have 2 guitars from GH2. _________________

I just got my 360 a couple months ago. I use Gamefly rental for the most part, most console games aren't worth owning. I've always played First Person shooters on the pc with a keyboard and mouse and can own that way. I just cant get down with the shooters on the console. I can hack my way through the single players, but the multiplayer blows for me. I know I could be doing 50X better with a keyboard and mouse.
Great games:
SKATE
DiRT
Madden 08
Guitar Hero series
Ace Combat 6
Decent Games:
HALO 3
The Outfit _________________ WakeSurf and Wakesurfing News |

Sorry but there are a lot of threads about this.
Including one on the front page of this forum, my man.
http://forums.wakeboarder.com/viewtopic.php?t=71886
Not locking yet, but hoping you add awesomeapproved to your Friends list.
Lets try to keep these to one thread.
I'll be playing Halo 3 tonight looking for some co-op help. I am about 70% through the game. |

Erik, i did see that thread. That was originally intended for the discussion of consoles... i just think it would be rad to have onnne centralized thread for games, and games only.
But if you think the other thread is sufficient, it wouldn't hurt my feelings if you killed this thread lol. _________________

My gamertag is, big surprise here, edrex.
Favorite game by far right now is skate. The best thing about it is that if you want to do challenges and progress in the game you can, but its just as much fun cruising the city and finding cool lines. The place marker feature is awesome! I also really like how your skater is who he is... not skilled based on earning stat points. All the skill comes from you learning how to control the tricks, with nothing holding you back but yourself. Skate 2 needs walking and "Call your trick" when playing s.k.a.t.e.
Also big into the Guitar Hero Series, and already paid for a preorder of Rock Band with all the instruments. That is going to be a Christmas present for the kids which is going to be torture for me knowing it will be sitting there for a month without me being able to play it. _________________

Well, first I need to get my kid an Xbox for Christmas. Then, somehow, Call of Duty 4 will find its way under the tree for dad. I wonder if he'll notice something fishy if he gets the console, but I get the games?

Lately I have been playing all Guitar Hero III and Halo 3. Just got GHIII so I went through career on medium. Working through on hard now. Went through Halo 3 on heroic, and now working through on legendary.
I will probably be picking up COD4 and maybe Dirt. |

| I was stuck on skate and bioshock, but GH3 and halo 3 are all I've played the past few weeks. I'm still on the fence about rock band. I really have no desire to have a set of drums and a 3rd guitar sitting in the living room, but if the game is as good as they say, I guess I have no choice. I've heard a lot about mass effect, but I really have no idea what it's about. I guess I'll pick it up if they say its any good |

| Having multiple threads about the same topic makes for a messy forum, and one that is less useful in terms of the search function. You should also note nothing was locked nor deleted. And in terms of workin' on your last nerve - I have no idea why I care to defend myself as you've had that attitude with me for years. |

So, I've been doing a little comparison shopping, but I don't think I'm comparing apples to apples. Which one of the seemingly endless package options do I want? And why don't these funking things come with two controllers? They look pretty cheesy for $50.
You guys didn't steer me wrong on the DS, so tell me what I want. |

Yep. Actually now that I know the reason for the eye roll, I don't care one way or the other to be honest. I made a suggestion - you disagree. Fine then, have a swell day. Thanks for the response.

My advice would be to go for the Elite. Please don't get the "Core" as there are games coming out soon that need the hard drive to operate properly and you'll be left out in the cold. There are rumors circulating that the reason for the delay of GTA4 is because they are trying to figure out how to make the game work on systems sold without the hard drive. It was a huge mistake on Microsoft's part to splinter the market like that - and they are paying the price now. So a hard drive isn't really an option anymore - you need to have it to enjoy the best games coming out for the system. And if you buy a core and later choose to put a drive in, it will cost about 90 dollars for a 20 gig drive (price gouge anyone?). If I could do it again, or if my Premium 360 s#8% the bed, that's what I would do. I have the "Premium" package which has a 20gig drive but they are not calling it that any more. I'm not sure what that SKU is called now. Elite is the way to go due to the size of the hard drive and the hdmi outputs plus the hardware changes they made to reduce the "red rings of death" problem. The Elite (and all 360's actually) comes with one wireless controller - they take 2 AA batteries but you can buy charge kits that plug into the usb ports on the front or back of the console. The controllers are super sturdy and well designed. They can take a beating and it is worth it to have a second one. |

Thanks for your advice. You do know your gaming consoles.
"Elite" it is. They seem to be in the $450 range. A second controller and a few games, and I'm out ~$600 bones! That's just bitchin'. |

Swass, check buy.com for controllers. I got a new OEM wireless one there for $39.99/shipped/no tax.
For games, go to Gamestop if you have one in your area. When you buy a used game there, you have 1 week to play it and return it for credit on something else. This helps ease the pain when you buy a game you think will be awesome and don't like it, or beat it too quickly. _________________

Its still called the Premium, priced @ $350. Has the same warranty as the Elite. Unless you just have to have the top bundle, the Premium is the way to go.
Here is a deal @ CC for the Premium with 2 free games, $350.

I agree with rhawn that the premium is the way to go. The premiums now come with hdmi. Unless you really need the extra hard drive space, I don't think the elite is worth the extra money. I've had my 360 since launch, and I have no use for 100gb of extra hard drive space. They all now come with 3 year warranties, so the rrod will only cost you a couple of weeks without your 360.
As far as the hardware changes go, they are now releasing 360's with the 65nm falcon from what I've heard. I believe they were first spotted in some of the halo 3 special edition consoles. I'm not sure how widespread they are right now, but I don't think they are in any way limited to the elite version of the console. |

Ok - Swass then get the Elite.
If you plan to download a lot of demos, Xbox Live Arcade content, and HD movies, then you will fill that 20 gigs pretty quickly. I have a 20 gig drive and I need to be mindful to delete demos I don't use or content I won't watch again. For the little bit of extra money, the Elite is worth it. Bundle packs have little appeal to me - the bundled games are often shovelware. Sometimes you can select your own games as part of the bundle.
But for what you get in the Elite - the larger drive, hdmi out, and overall revamped/less problematic hardware makes it more appealing to me personally. Regardless the main point is to get either the Premium or the Elite, and not the "Core" or "Arcade". |

The elite has 100gb more hd space, comes with the hdmi cable, and is black. Other than that it is identical to the premium. The chipsets are identical, so neither should be more/less error prone than the other.
premium ftw |

Elite FTW, but me FTL in terms of support for the Elite I suppose
I own a Premium so maybe it just gets down to a grass is greener sort of thing. As a pretty vocal fan of the Xbox 360 I would without hesitation buy an Elite if my premium were to die on me. |

Swass, I have a better idea... find a sucker with a premium that wants an elite (Erik) and make him an offer on his. My friend bought an HDTV and his premium didn't have the HDMI port so I bought it off him for $200 and he put that twards his elite. _________________

Yes, I'm in Denver. What was your first clue?
Again, I'm looking for one locally. More specifically, I'm looking for them at the PX (so I don't have to pay sales tax). They're gone as soon as they arrive. |

I guess they're in higher demand at the PX. If you don't want to pay taxes, just order one from amazon. They'll ship it for free as well. |

Elite. That was the other one.
I think the Elite and Premium are identical except the Premium has the bigger HD. I may have that backwards, but I'm almost positive they both have HDMI. |
