i presonally think that this game is prolly better than tony hawk.it looks so real the graphics are better and the tricks looke so real and right.ea did an awesome job on this game.i wish they used more skaters like ryan sheckler, rodney mullen, tony hawk, daewon song, bucky lasek, and mike vallely.also, the story wasnt that great and the challenges were that great either.they could have done a little better on the story.the last thing i dislike is the camera angle in the game.i wish u could change it.i thenk it is better than tony hawks proect 8 but i dont know if it is better than thony hawks underground(the best skating game this far).overall i love skate, it is a great game and really fun to play.

wut do u think of the game?

what is ur favorite skating game so far?

mwb shorty,
Skate. is a good game. I played the demo and was impressed.

Tony hawk (As in the original) was my favorite game as i rememeber playing graffiti mode on the warehouse level way too often. I'd say when the underground stuff started, it got horrible, and more unrealistic before.

I'm happy with skate after playing the demo. I dunno if i would be during the game as demos normally just show off the game,

mwb shorty, that was the whole point of skate. They were getting away from the button-mashing unreality of Tony Hawk games and making you use more skill to pull off good moves. I just picked it up today and I already like it way more then any of the TH games I've played. No more 500 ft grinds and quadruple kickflip to double heelflip shuv 1080's with 8 different grabs. Very Happy

While most of this post is incoherent and nonsensical, I do agree that the camera angles can be somewhat irritating. I also think it's annoying when you run into a curb and get turned around so you hafta skate up the street and then ollie up the sidewalk.

That being said, the best skate game of all time is Tony Hawk 2. SKATE is a very close 2nd.

And the whole "realistic" argument is ridiculous. Just 'cuz you hafta use the analog sticks instead of just pressing buttons that doesn't make a nollieflip tailslide to laser flip out more realistic.

More realistic than Tony Hawk.

Skate is fun and some of the moves actually take some practice to get down with the analog sticks. I've gotten used to the camera angle, but it still bothers me at times. I think the camera angle is better when you are being chased by security in a no skate zone and it zooms out a bit. It would also be nice if you could walk up stairs to make it less tedious to get to some places.

I still haven't figure out how to ride in pools. I can't keep any speed at all in them.

Thanks for the review, I'll be passing on Skate. As good as it looks, if its a pain in the ass/realistic I'll pass. The fun of Tony Hawk and video games in general is the unrealistic stuff you can do. If I wanted to suck on a skateboard I'd go out in the driveway.

JRW160, yeah, the walking thing is one thing that bothers me. When you get stopped against a ledge and have to ollie out, or find the long way around getting up a set of stairs you start to wonder why they believe that skaters NEVER walk.
Also, is there a "switch" button for turning the other direction quickly when you are stopped? That would help some instead of ollie 180's to get out of some areas.

It's worth renting to see if you like it. It's still unrealistic, but what edrex said is right, it's less unrealistic than Tony Hawk.

I've played a lot of skateboard games and this is the only one I've liked besides Tony Hawk.

I kicked Mike Carrol and Ryan Smith's ass at S.K.A.T.E last night. Now I gotta see if I can take PJ Ladd down a peg. If he's better than Carroll then I'm gonna hafta log a LOT more hours before I can beat him.

How far along are people in this game? I'm a good distance through it, but I'm having some severe difficulty getting my latest recording assignments done. I gotta get like 4000 pts in a no-skate zone. Aside from linking everything with a manual I don't know how I'm gonna do it without getting tackled by the security guard.

Oh, and can anyone good height when ollieing out of a manual? The best I can do is curb height.

I'm at the point where the only challenges available are the video challenges. I think I have 3 left on the thrasher list and 6 on skateboarding mag's list. Some of them requirements are kinda ridiculous, so I think it going to take me a while. I also have a few pros left to beat in s.k.a.t.e.

Also I just discovered that you can jump to locations using the map. I've been skating everywhere and it was taking forever to get anything done.

yea i have both covers done for the skateboard mag and thrasher, but i have like 10 films left that i wont ever be able to do cuz they are so hard.

JRW160, yea beign able to jump to locations made beating career in the game a lot shorter.i figured that out when i was getting a board sponsor.i would spend like 10 minutes getting to a place,it was pointless

P Rods took me a while, and I just got lucky to get the one at PJ's mansion. I also had a lot of trouble with the one inside the plan b warehouse on that big bowled corner.

Has anyone gotten to the x games?

Honey, nobody on this message board does. Wink

I just finished the game last night. I won't spoil anything, but I thought the last challenge was pretty easy. If there hadn't been other guys skating and knocking me over I would probably had it on my first try.

I also had a lotta trouble with the Plan B bowl grind, I think that one was the hardest for me. Dyrek's challenge is kinda hard too. Overall, I think most of the pro challenges were pretty easy though. The hardest part is learning the flickit control. Once you do you're pretty much golden.

The game is done. I got all the video challenges done, I beat 15 pros at S.K.A.T.E, I got all the best trick comps and downhill challenges, and I finished the last pro challenge at Danny Way's compound. The only thing left is to find all the "own the spot" challenges and finish those, I think I heard there's 20.

I finished all the own the spot challenges, and beat all 15 pros in s.k.a.t.e. I guess I need to beat some more videos or something to progress any farther. Those are the only challenges I can do at this point.

I think the last challenges I completed were PJ's mansion and following mark gonzalez to the art gallery.

Jester, where and how did u beat the last video challenges? i still have like 10 to do.

also, the easy way to beat pros in s.k.a.t.e. is to do a 360 with the left stick and then push the right stick the same direction u pushed the left stick to pull off a 540.pros will do some other random trick.just make some variations with it and u will easily win in like 5 minutes instead of taking like 30 minutes to beat a pro in s.k.a.t.e.

how did u guys beat the pros in s.k.a.t.e.?

The high scoring challenges you just need long curbs or ledges. Start with a nollie tre flip to 5-0 or something, then flip into another grind, then another if possible. That oughta bring your multiplier to 2 or 3. Manuals outta the grinds can help too. Do it again on the same ledge/curb and you'll get your points. Once I figured that out I was able to beat the no skate zone/high score challenges in just a few tries.

Once I figured out the flickit it was a lot easier to compete with the pros in SKATE. Just throw laser flips or nollie hardflips or whatever with some rotation. As you get further along they'll start matching tricks a lot more, but eventually they get tired and will fall 2 or 3 times in a row. Just be patient and you'll take 'em out. The only guy I got beat by was PJ Ladd, but I think now that I know the flickit I could take him on my first try.

Don't ollie outta the 5-0 to the tailslide, once you have it locked just use the left joystick to turn your body and you'll slip into the tailslide. Easy money.

I just got to the x games a few days ago. I got to a point where I only could do video challenges, and I had to beat a few of those to unlock the x games. After that you unlock danny way's compound.

Unlocking Danny's compound depends on how many overall challenges you've completed I think. I beat the X-Games long before I ever unlocked his compound. But I didn't do a lotta the little side challenges.

I don't remember rob and big's being that bad. I had a lot of trouble with p rod's and with the best trick contest that's near rob and big's challenge. I couldn't do anything on that globe thing.
