Is the trick to throwing a scarecrow just to pull like a front roll but release the front hand after you innitiate the roll or what?

scarecrows are pretty much the easiest rotation for me to do. i basically drop my rear shoulder down right off the wake and throw my front shoulder back and look over it. sounds strange but thats how i learned to do them.

take a look at my video and watch my shoulders on the scarecrow and you should see what i mean.

Natman, i've done it that way and it feels weird to me...like you actually have to do the trick by yourself. the way i do it, the wake gives somewhat of a kick for me and i don't have to do much.

it looks fairly easy comparable to a backroll. landings look soft and smooth. So what should i be aware of when trying these, what are some key points and how bad are the falls?

scarecrow falls aren't bad if you get half way around. the only thing to worry about is teabagging the water.

ohio_wake_2008 is right. I used to throw them like a frontroll and then did the 180 at the last minute, but it is so much more work that way. The way ohio_wake_2008 does them makes it easier to throw crow mobes when you get to that point.

Stewie, yeah it definitely helped a lot when i was learning crow mobes. in fact, i landed the crow mobe on my 3rd or 4th try because the rotation was really easy for me.

I seem to always rotate around to much so that I either slip out on my heals or land on my heal edge and land on my back. What am I doing wrong?

00ls1, yes.

gene3x, you just overrotate the trick. keep your body a little straighter in the air rather than stay tucked (if you tuck in your rotation)...otherwise just don't throw the trick so hard.

The scarecrow is not as much of a ball slapper as the front roll. I went back out today and almost got it. but am still not getting the board completely under me. I get the rotation and the spin (pulling hard to my back hip helped that), but I land on my back foot when I come around so that the nose of the board is pointed at a 40 degree angle towards the sky in the direction I am supposed to be going. If I can just get the nose of the board down I ride away.

Any suggestions?

are you holding with both hands or releasing your front hand right after you pop and initiate?

I am holding with both hands and really pulling to my rear hip hard. I think something is wrong with my pop off the wake but people i the boat say I am plenty high enough. I am frustrated as hell with such an easy trick.

I have trouble doing frontrolls. I naturally rotate into a scarecrow.

i don't back off at all or trip flip it. i jump straight up off the wake with momentum to clear the wake.

ohio_wake_2008, So you do not back off to throw your heels into it? Do you just leap and throw your head forward? I see people do it this way but it seems like they struggle to get it around. Maybe I will try this as I seem to struggle getting it around anyway.

gene3x, i've been doing the trick for a few years so i am comfortable with any way that i throw it, but i just keep my edge the whole way in and jump off the top of the wake and naturally throw the trick. i don't trip off the top of the wake at all...i just throw it.

Cool thanks man.... I will try it. I am on a Marius and it never seems to get the speed I need to pop the trip part when I come off edge. I will just try throwing it also. Smile

Just throw your right shoulder to your left knee. You will come around. You will prolly feel yourself pulling the rope to initiate the trick and bring it around. I don't think it's a trip flip really.
