It's funny how people say the Lakers suck. I guess winning 3 championships mean you suck. Shaq and Kobe stuck up? You just mentioned about 80% of all pro athletes.

Give credit where credit is due. The Lakers kicked ass the last 3 years. This year, yes, they're having a tough time. But if you count 'em out in the playoffs, you don't really know the Lakers.

Quit sayin' this team or that team sucks, when they've got championships to back them up. The Cavaliers suck, yes. The Clippers suck, yes. The Lakers?

I just say the Lakers suck because I can't stand them, yes I know they are a good team and all, but I can't stand Kobe and his attitude. Everytime he gets touched he wants a foul called and if someone calls a foul on him he freaks out even if the call was a good one.

Joe- It's more of a statement about the season to Date. In the past the lakers have been the best. Yes they have the titles. This year they are playing poorly. I don't think the 4th title is going to happen. They got lucky to get #3. This is the Kings year.

I think the T-Wolves are fine. If the Lakers were still here, it's not like they'd necessarily have been as dominant as they have been in NBA history.

Kobe should stop pretending to be MJ. I hate the Lakers. They'll lose in the first round though so it'll all be good. Very Happy

Is Kobe the only player that you watch? He must be 'cause you haven't mentioned Vlade Divac when it comes to attitude. He must be cause you didn't mention Rasheed Wallace and his attitude. He must be cause you didn't mention Allen Iverson cries about every call or non-call. He must be cause you didn't mention Gary Payton do the same thing. Hmm...Jordan compained a lot, too, didn't he?

Kobe should stop pretending to be Jordan? That's the most ridiculous statement, next to the Lakers suck. Kobe plays his game...period. It's similar to Jordan, yes, but it's still Kobe's game. Anyone see Harold Miner play? How 'bout Stacey Augmon? Those guys were labeled as the next Michael Jordan? Why? Not because they pretended to play like Jordan, but their style of play was similar to Jordan's. Kobe didn't get to be at this level pretending to be someone else. No one does.

Please, people, think of what you're going to say before you post on this subject...including you, DA MOOSE!

NorCal, no #3 wasn't luck. You don't win championships based on luck. Yeah, they got some calls go their way. Every team they played got calls go their way as well. Yes, their play this year is terrible, compared to the last 3 years. But remember last year, how the chilled during the regular season, then turned it on in the playoffs? I'm not saying they're going to win it all this year, but don't count 'em out.

An injury to Shaq or Kobe would end any championship hopes for the Lakers since their bench is arguably worse than any other bench in the league.

Just they way he plays, he just seems like he tries to imitate Jordan. Didn't Phil Jackson even tell Kobe this week to stop trying to be him? Hell, he even tries to talk like Jordan. I never said Kobe got to this level by pretending either.

Who do you guys think is better, T-Mac or Kobe?

I'd say T-Mac for one reason, he passes.

Bethany, you rule! Very Happy

Jello John, no offense, bro...I enjoy reading your posts and know that you're one of the cool OG's in here. But...

Of course T-Mac passes. Apparently, so does Kobe.

Assist Leaders
12. Kobe Bryant 6.1/per game
17. Tracy McGrady 5.5/per game

Yeah, their bench isn't as good as some of the other teams in the NBA. But you gotta admit, they get the job done, as role players.

I agree that if Shaq and/or Kobe were hurt, the Lakers wouldn't stand a chance. Neither would the Kings w/o Peja or Webber. Neither would the Spurs w/o Duncan. Neither would the Mavs w/o Nowitzki or Finley. Neither would the Blazers w/o Rasheed or Bonzi. Neither would the Wolves w/o KG.

Don't know if Phil told him that or not. People, and yes, including Phil, has to realize that just because his game is similar to MJ, doesn't mean he's trying to be like MJ. Again, no one gets to this level immitating another player. He even tries to talk like Jordan? Uh, his voice and the way he speaks is nowhere near MJ. That's ridiculous to think "he even tries to talk like Jordan."

It's acceptable to hear, "Kobe ball hogs" or even "Kobe is overrated".
But hearing "He tries to be like Jordan" or even "tries to talk like Jordan" well, it just sounds like people are reaching for reasons to bring him down. He's a bad ass player...give credit where credit is due...whether you like him or not.

Actually no jumalian, Kobe is not the only player I watch. I'm a huge Blazer fan and I watch almost every Blazer game on TV and Rasheed does argue with the refs so do a lot of other players in the league. I'm just saying that Kobe argues about the most obivious (SP) calls ever, I have seen him argue for a foul when a player doesn't even touch him. I think Kobe is an awesome player, he has a whole lot of talent, he is just not one of my favorites! I have been reading a book about Vince Carter call Drive and they were talking about Kobe in it and this is something that really caught my attention, Phil Jackson said this-
"Someone told me that in high school, Kobe used to sabotage his own game, so the game could be close. So he could dominate at the end. To sabotage the team process, to be self-centered in your own process...it's almost stupefying."
Ok that to me is just dumb, and it just sounds like something Kobe would do IMO. Ok as far as the TMac-Kobe thing goes, I have had this arguement with so many people, they are both very, very good players. IMO TMac is a better player, I like his attitude better and I think he is a better shooter. Very Happy

Okay, to me, he was a high school guy. I sabotaged basketball games all the time when I was in high school!

How would you know it's something "Kobe would do"? How many times have you hung out with him? How many times have you played ball with him?

I'm not denying the fact that he whines about calls and non-calls. He's not any worse than Rasheed. If you say he is, then you're just way too baised towards Rasheed and the Blazers.

Joe- When multiple games come down to buzzer beaters and especially the one made by Horrey I call that luck. The games could have gone either way. Buzzer beaters are never about skill. Of course the shot is about skill but the opportunity to have a rebound deflected to your exact location when you haven't moved in the last 5 seconds is luck.

Joe- Don't get me wrong that was probably the most exciting playoff series in the history of the game. You couldn't find 2 teams that are so different and yet so evenly matched. The Kings and Lakers make great rivals. Everyone knows that the champion is going to be the team to make it out of the west.

jumalian-
What I'm saying about Kobe is that he wants to be the star and he would risk his team losing to be the hero of the game. Remember the game a couple of weeks ago, I can't remember who it was against, where he wanted to get 40 that night to continue his streak and he just kept shooting and missing. After the game he apoiligized (SP) to his teammates and said that he really wanted to get that 40, I know the Lakers won that game, but why didn't Kobe pass that ball down low to Shaq. Instead Kobe just kept shooting so HE could get his 40, his team could of lost but he just wanted his streak to continue. I'm not baised towards Sheed and the Blazers, I know that Sheed argues too much sometimes, a lot of players do! Very Happy

wake152, can you come up with some supporting facts for your comment of "Racheed (Rasheed) is the man"? Did you mean "the man" as the man w/ the most techincal fouls in his career? If so, then you're right. Don't get me wrong, he's a sick ass player. I want him as a Laker. But as "the man", maybe for technicals, and/or maybe on his team...but not the NBA.

NorCal, how can you call Horry's shot luck? He's done that throughout his career. Okay, maybe him standing where the ball was batted out, was luck, but it takes more than luck to get the ball in the hoop w/ time running out. Horry's shooting...not luck. Him getting the ball where he needed it...yes, luck. Even the Kings announcer, Grant Nappier (sp?) said "Vlade's an idiot" for saying Horry's shot was a lucky shot.

And yes, that series was awesome...the best I have ever seen...even better than the Lakers-Celtics in the 80s. I hope for another series like that, and if the Lakers should happen to lose, fine, I'll be disappointed. But I want to see a good series...period.

So let me ask you, and I want you to think as a basketball fan, and not as a Kings fan. What'd you think of Game 6?

Grace, yeah, he admitted he was wrong. Wasn't that the right thing to do? You do something wrong, admit it, and apologize. He did that. I'm not saying ball-hogging is right, but what he did to fix it was.

You gotta admit...he was on fire! If you were in the streak that he was, you'd keep shooting, too...anyone would, especially NBA players. Look at T-Mac last week...he was on fire! Thus, kept shooting.

Fact is, he's a shooter. Just like Paul Pierce, Antoine Walker, Peja Stojakovic, Michael Finley, Reggie Miller, etc. They would rather take the shot. But more often than not, they'll give the ball up, dive for loose balls, block shots, etc., to win games...even shoot the ball 40 times...whatever it takes to win the game.

And if some particular game you watch you see him not give up the ball, he's doing it because he thinks that's what it's going to take to win. Every "star" player thinks this way. Look at Jordan. He thinks he can carry the team to win.

jumalian-
Yeah, I think Kobe did the right thing by saying he was wrong, but I still don't think he should of done it. He was on quite a streak though and since I played basketball for along time, I may have done the same thing if I was in his position. But I still would have thought of my team winning first. I'm not saying Kobe is a bad player, which is probably what it sounds like since I'm dissing him quite a bit Very Happy I think he has a whole lot of talent and is just going to get better. I also thinks he makes some bad decisions, but every single player does, no one is perfect!
