I am considering a 2002 Tige' 20V. Any opinions on Tige's in general, or the 20V, would be appreciated. It has 0 hours, left over from last season, has a tower, ballast, most extras. They are asking 37,900.

I have a 99 tige 21i. I am very happy with it and haven't had any issues. Bill J has a 20V and it is a sweet boat.

I usually ride in Tiges and enjoy the boats. When we go out, we are out all day and have to pack everything with us. The Tige has plenty of room to do that (the 21 V). The 20V is big for a 20 foot boat, but at the end of the day, it's a bit cramped compared to the larger boats. Riding behind the Tiges has never been an issue for me, although some will complain about the wake. Take it out, ride behind it, drive around, hit the double ups with it and see for yourself.

I've ridden behind quite a few Tige's and for the money in my opinion, it's a great buy! Nice wake, lot's of storage, great interior layouts and design. You get a lot of bang for your buck! Post some pic's!

I'd go with a 22v for a little more money. Insane wake, tons of storage, plenty of room. My dealer had one for $40k at the boat show.

Yeah, I'm very happy with my 20v. Bought it last May and now have 240 hours on it with only one minor problem (electrical short in the TAPS wire). Boat rides and handles well, and the wake is great. We usually run about 800# of ballast and 5 or 6 guys and the wake is good size and shape. The most we've run
was about 1200# with 6 people and the wake was huge, but still maintained the shape. The boat is also great for wake surfing, very easy to get a waist high wake with only a minimal amount of weight in the back.

You can check out the wake in some of the pics and videos that I've posted on wakepics: http://www.wakepics.com/member/billj

I used to ride behind a Tige' Riders Edition all the time. It was a good boat but I much preferred my '83 2001 Ski Nautique Wake. The towere wan't so hot either. Good boat otherwise, though.

I would take the time to look at the Big 3 and drive their comparable boats. Don't go less than 21 ft. . That 20 has the interior of an 18 ft runabout. Tige will not hold it's value like MC,CC or Malibu. The performance is not equal either. Also look at JD Power and Assoc. online,Tige is near the bottom for satisfaction. Good luck!

I must chalk one up to Goldmember. He has a very valid point. Anyone who ispects melons is sure to have an eye for quality. If you gonna make a purchase then why not make it count? Go with the big 3, preferrably Malibu!

BillJ - How do you like your inland surfer? I trying to decide between that and a BZ board, they work pretty good. Also, where is that picture from?

I've got a 2002 20v. It has been an awsome boat - the build quality (carpets, vinyl, electronics, gauges, hinges, fasteners, stitching, fit & finish) compare with any of the Big 3. Look at them all closely - you'll see what I'm talking about. The boat handles rough water with ease, has a solid ride, and the wakes on the 20v hull using just TAPS are great! (You might need to add some ballast though if you want Pro level wakes, although I've had a guy behind my boat without ballast turning flips at-will). The new boats Tige has put out in the past couple of years are as good as any boat out there today.

I'm not going to knock the other boats - don't need to - compare the Tige yourself to the others - you won't be disappointed!!!

Mullet, the Inland Surfer works great - much better than a 6'0" shortboard that I tried. That pic was taken at Lake Perris in December.

BillJ - You are pretty brave going out there in trunks in December. I have surfed behind my boat for a couple years now on an 8 foot Stewart longboard. I have been thinking about a shorter board designed for it. Thanks for the info.

Dragon - They are a well built boat. I think they are a bit pricey though. When i bought my Malibu I also was looking at the Nautique. I ended up with the Bu because I liked the rampier wake better and also because the CC dealer had a bunch of snobs working there, the customer service sucked. As far as quality, I think they are pretty equal.

I have owned a Tige 20i and recently bought a new 03 Tige 21i and the 21i is an awesome boat and I would put it above the " Big 3" as they have been refered to. The build quality is superb and the wakes excellent, the 21i is also an excellent slalom boat so i have the best of both worlds.
As suggested test them out you'll not be disappointed, in fact I think you'll be overwhelmed by the Tige's, they knock spots off the others. In my opinion

Tige are putting more into the sport of wakeboarding than anyone else so i also think they deserve the credit and recognition and what better way of doing that than buying one of their boats. Laughing

For stregnth lets think??? Fiberglass encased wood or fiberglass encased foam??? I think no one mentioned it because it's a non-issue with the lifetime waranty

Not to mention the fact that Tige' has never had a warranty claim on the XL panel they use. If some lucky person ever does make the first warranty claim they get a brand new free boat and $10,000 on top of it! Personally, I want to be that guy!

It's a DEAD ISSUE...Pickford, Dazed and Confused.

I picked up the 03 brochure at the LA show. In it was a sheet on the Life Plus 10K Warranty. The following text is from the insert. These are not all of the exclusions, just the ones that caused me some concern.
-Any boat used for speed, competition, performance demonstration, rental or ski school. (You better not use you boat in a tournament.)
-The warranty on the deck, hull flooring and stringers does not include hardware or other components fastened or adhered to the hull, deck, flooring or stringers. (for example-engine mounts)
-The installation of any equipment by a dealer or any other installer.
-All components, parts and accessories not manufactured by Tige to include, but not limited to,engines, gear trains, drive trains and transmissions.
-Anyone other than the first owner except where stated.
-Any boat which is (a) used for rental or other commercial, military or industrial purposes;(b) used in boat racing, demonstrations or similar events;(c) altered, modified, repaired or replaced so as to increase the cubic inch capacity of horsepower output of the engine and boat as originally manufactured.
This is only 1/2 of the exclusions. If you have any doubts, request a copy from the company. Just read the fine print. Tige has covered their rear with these,so I doubt they would ever have to honor the warranty.

I have owned... well my parents have owned and a tige, and they were really happy with it, we never really has any problems with it. The wake was pretty good wake. we has a 22 riders edition, a 02' the only reason we sold it was because we had a 03' 210 on order.

I take exception to the comments on Tige's not holding their value or that MC,CC or Malibu are better boats. For boarders the Tige wake is 10 times better than the Malibu. I can't speak for the other 2 as i've never ridden behind either. I have a '99 21v and i have a buddy with a Malibu 23' Wakesetter. He has to add tons of weight just to get the wake close to the Tige. The wedge is a pain in the ass and the boat drives like a tank with the wedge down. I've owned tons of boats and anything will fall apart if you let it. Tige makes a great boat. I've put my boat through hell hitting stumps and sand bars during a drought a few years back, it's been put back together several times and it still runs great, looks great and throws a fantastic wake. I think you'll love Tige if you go for it.

I love my 22I type R but my riverside dealership treats you like crap as soon as they get your money, like they are doing you a favore for fixing the stuff that the botched in the first place. I'm not sure if you are in so cal also but if you are try the dealership in Arizona the guy I spoke with was much nicer and you can avoid a few thousand in tax if you have a friend with an AZ adress and register it to that address. Tom at Tige' riversided will blow hot air up your a$$ until you buy it and then wount remember who the F@#$ you are! Laughing HAPPY with the boat....Twisted Evil HATE my dealership!!!!!!!!!!!

I can not believe that there are still those that are lost about the stringer setup in boats. The big 3 truly do have a stronger stringer system. Torsion box stringers are stronger no matter what you say, it is proof in the way boat building is going and the design of other things such as freeway supports and bridge supports (large torsion box designs). Foam is used for nothing more than a deadening device, the only good quality of wood. The size and shape of Tige's wood string compared to one of the torsion box stringers made by the big 3 are not similar. Here is a quick diagram to show you the difference. Note that the wood used in a Tige string is plywood! It is not a huge piece of 4" x 8" kiln dried fir that was the norm of years past. The torsion box design of the Big 3 uses more fiberglass and is larger and torsionally stiffer by design (note the size!).

The big three are Mastercraft, Malibu, and who else?

I am waiting to here back from the Tige dealer. I am considering the Tige' 20V (36,500 + cover), A 2002 Supra Launch with 30 hours (33,500 loaded -tower speakers) or a new Tige 21i, for around 36.5K with the tower and Taps system. Lakes are still frozen here, so I won't even be able to test drive until mid April at the earliest, I think. But you never know about the weather up here.
