So I wouldn't say I'm a total noob, got w2w 180's dialed, I can ollie, but just not like I've seen other people, you know where they ollie over a buoy or something. I can ollie like 8" maybe, enough to do a quick 180 or a 360 off a roller but I'm looking to get that massive ollie pop some guys have. I can ollie well on skateboard, a couple feet, but I'm still having trouble on the water. Do I force my back foot down just like a skateboard or is it more of a rocking the tail into the water idea? I figured I should have more tension/edge for more of a pop, but I haven't been out to the lake in a bit to try plus I've been focusing on my toeside stuff more than ollies.
Any advice would be great. _________________ Litrecola? Do we sell litrecola? |

No expert here, but the easiest ollie is to edge out hard heelside, build as much speed as possible, then flatten out the board immediately before you ollie. I'm getting about 2 feet lately. Not huge, but its getting there.
Now, if I could just do that on a wakeskate. |

The ollie in wakeboarding is closer to a snowboard ollie than it is a skateboard. You want to rock back onto your tail and lift your front foot almost simultaneously. Then launch off your back foot leveraging the tail of the board against the water. It just takes practice. HHI Dave, got it right though. Try to take some speed into it and level the board out before you ollie. You shouldn't be on edge. _________________ You have just entered the twilight zone. |

Ok thanks, I'll make sure I focus on the rocking concept more next time I'm out, typically I did the cut out build speed level off and ollie thing but I had been thinking about skateboard-style ollies before. Thanks! _________________ Litrecola? Do we sell litrecola? |

| Wakebrad, What exactly do you mean by launching your back foot. Do you mean just jump with your back foot or what? |

McQuesten1, on a skateboard they tell you to snap down your back foot and the slide your front foot forward. Well, since we cant slide our feet around (hopefully..) you just want to adjust your weight to your back foot and pop up your front in one smooth motion, and then even out your board. For beginners, sucking your knees up to your chest pretty high can help a bit.
Ollies are just something that will usually come with time, just relax and have fun and they will come easier.... |

| Yea I figured it out yesterday, I started doing the rocking motion like he said, and got just a little air. Then I got to doing it over cans and stuff in the water, and by the end of the day I was doing ollie 180's. Probably could have done a 360 but didn't think to try it. But thinks for the tips, it helped me. |

Sounds like your lake is polluted.
I practice ollies over the many crab trap buoys around here. |

In the latest wakeboarding mag theres a page that gives you some tips on how to train your legs to ollie higher.
Haven't tried it yet but seems like a great way to get hieght on ollies. |

This is the exact same drill that they teach at The Wakeboard Camp. Not surprising since Kyle Schmidt and Chad Lowe were the ones coaching us there.
Basically you start by ollie-ing repeatedly and quckly. Get a feel for it and gradually go bigger with it. Worked for me. Now I'm just trying to get the wakeskate ollie down. Its taking a little longer. |
