when you slide across the peak part of the wake????what??? well here is the definition of a butterslide from this site: Butterslide: Rider turns the board frontside 90 degrees and grinds the wake. but does it have to be while "grinding" the wake, it can just be flat out riding in the position, and that would be how its done on cabl,e just without the wake, do ya understand? |

So when you hit a rail that's called a board/lipslide, right? Or is that called a butterslide as well? |

Wait a minute, I'm confused again. So butterslides are on flat water, lipslides on the wake, & boardslides on a rail, is that right?
On a skateboard whether it's called a lipslide or boardslide depends on which set of wheels go over the rail. Does it work the same way in wakeskating or no? |

boardslide and lipslide on the skateboard is the same on a wakeskate. if the nose goes over the rail its either a FS or BS boardslide depending on which way you are facing. when the tail goes over the rail it is either a FS or BS lipslide again depending on which way you are facing.
when i hear butter slides i think of when you turn the board 90 degrees and ride either in the flats or on the wake. but it also can be called boardslide or lipslide if you were to pretend the wake was a rail |

I think butterslide is a wakeboard term that shouldn't be used to describe wakeskating. How do u do a pop shuvit while riding 90 down the lake? I can see just doing a shuvit, but you're ollieing you're shuvit, eh. _________________ bindings suck |

i guess different people can call it different things, i thought it was only a butterslide if it was on a wake, if you not on a wake its not nearly as challanging _________________ Good Times

ill agree with that face-plant, i know it is more challenging on the lip of a wake then just the surface, but its still a trick if its not on the wake, and is on the surface |

no im talking about on the wake a lipslide(on the wake doing a butterslide) is when you snap the tail and do almost a surface 180 onto the wake. a boardslide you just turn the nose down kinda so you will be perpendicular to the wake(i think ive never done them) |

when you do a butterslide(lipslide) on the wake you normally cut i kinda hard and snap the tail around almost 180 degrees so the center of your board is on the crest of the wake on a boardslide butterslide i think you cut in easy and slightly turn your front foot so the center of the board rides the crest of the wake. there is a difference between boardslides and lipslides. i was looking thru the sections of snap and in the lip trick section it listed boardslide(butterslide0 and lipslides. i had never thot of doing these before and wanted to know if anyone had any input. |

For it to be a lipslide or boardslide, you have to be doing it on something(wake or rail). For it to be a pop shuvit you have to ollie the shuvit( "pop" ). I don't even want to know what a butterslide is because it is some wakeboarding abomination. _________________ bindings suck |

what are you talking about. butterslide is a trick you can really ad some style to. check out the snap promo and there are a couple good shots of people doing butterslide to shuvit out and butterslide ollie 180 to BS butterslide. oh and yes i am talking about doing the lipslide/boardslide butterslides on the wake. |

Somebody already explained the difference between lip & boardslides. Lipslides your tail goes over the object (be it rail or wake or whatever) & boardslides the front of your board goes over it. Lipslides are the harder of the 2. |

Vikingsexdream- I am talking about wakeboarders giving names to tricks that already have names. If anyone ever called one of my lipslides a butterslide, I would hit them so hard they would cry. _________________ bindings suck |

Yeah, I don't use the term "butterslide " in wakeboarding because it is mislabeled. Butters come from snowboarding and the wakeboarding version isn't anything like the snow version (It's done on your nose or tail on the snow), so I just dont' use it. However, bill mccaffray and shaun murray have done some surface stuff that totally resembles a true butter, which is cool to see.
So, I just call it something like a frontside board on the wake or something, not a backside butterslide (which was also named backwards). _________________ J.L.A. Is Snowboarding

i use it, because thats what i learned it has, when people did them, people around me called them butterslides, so naturaly, that what i call them, never heard anything else till this thread, but on the cable its different, everyone has the same basic names, on the boat alot of people may have different terms for things |
