So, WTF is up with the Chargers dumping Marty?

I know him & management didn't get along, but 14-2 is a hellofa record to argue with.

Plus, who the F are they gonna hire? I mean if the 'Boys had to settle for Bum's son, who in the heck do the Chargers think they are gonna get?

PS: Chargerfan - don't think for a second that you are getting Carroll.

Carroll would be smart to take a long hard look. Nothing is going to happen to USC over either Bush incident, but the Chargers are LOADED and young. You couldn't have a more perfect situation to walk into.

I don't know why everyone is so surprised about the firing. Marty and Smith haven't EVER gotten along and Marty just lost his top 4 coaches. That's a TON. They didn't agree on who Marty wanted to bring in and Marty pushed his luck. Bye bye Schottenloser!

Other than Carroll, there is the Colts QB coach (I think that's the Colts coach Peyton was pimping for Cowboys HC) and Ron Rivera out there, just off the top of my head. Certainly would prefer a 3-4 D guy w/ all the success they've had so there are limited DCs to go after. Certainly aren't taking anyone off of the Texans, but the Pittsburgh DC may be looking to move on after zero consideration for the HC position there and a DC coming in as HC.

jt09, Carroll won't do it. He won't go somewhere where he doesn't have complete control of the program - and in SD he certainly won't. The best shot @ PC was Miami and you know how that turned out.

I am not surprised as much as I am dumbfounded. You don't fire the guy who had no real stumbles (last season) other than that one game, and look to a field of unproven asst coaches and a few "proven" former HC's.

If someone good was on their radar, and by good I mean Cowher, The Tuna, Jones, etc. then yeah, OK. But not right now....

muckmeister, Rivera is your DC you mook.

chavez, I don't think Pete will either, but control issue aside, the Charger job is WAY better than the Miami job. Just too much talent that now knows how to win for the Bolts.

This was how it was going to end no matter what. Timing is off, but it was going to end badly there and everyone knew it.

Yes you are. I'm going to assume you aren't playing stupid a la cb.

DC = Defensive Coordinator. The guy in charge of the defense, specifically the design of the defense and the guy in charge of calling the defensive plays. Jerry Jones interviewed Ron Rivera directly after the Super Bowl in regards to the Cowboys DC position if Norv Turner was made HC. Norv wasn't, and Rivera remains the Bears DC.

the chargers are a mess, and it's a shame because they have so much talent. until the front office gets their heads out of their butts, i don't think they are going to have much success. espn was saying that marty's contract allowed him to pick who coaches under him, but the GM or president or whoever didn't like the guys he picked. It seems like this is something we should be hearing about out of the raiders ownership.

have any of you guys heard anything about tony dungy retiring? i hear he's considering going full-time into ministry.

Aubs, it became abundantly clear last season - Bellichek is an door knob. Blew off Mangini, twice (no sincerity on round 2) and blew off Peyton when he was making an effort he did not have to make. The guy is a great coaching mind, but he is a disgrace on the sidelines and an obvious jerkwad to boot.

So, as long as Bellijerk is around, the Pats can go pound salt.

Chavez - He shook Mangini's hand the second time though he did push a reporter almost to the ground. He was pissed about a loss that caused us not to win the superbowl (no team that ever lost to the Jets in the regular season has even won a Superbowl - claims a friend of mine, not 100% sure on the validity of that one). I honestly could care less about Peyton - Peyton just needs to go back to making his 328472834723948234 commercials and he'll be better off.
Yes, I think Belichick can be a jerk sometimes, but I don't think he's the meanest coach in the NFL, and probs not in the top 5 either.
As long as we dont get rid of Asante Samuel we'll be okay... this is one guy I think we need to pay top dollar for & if Belichick lets him go, then I will add that to his faults as well...

Just for the record, Swass paid in full. No photo, but twice the merchandise.... Little Man wore his DU Hockey shirt yesterday and was convinced that it was the coolest shirt in school.

Thanks Swass....you're a champ!

Even though I sent two shirts, I haven't completely fulfilled the terms of the bet until I take a photo of myself wearing the hat. The lady at the Pioneers store said the beanies are gone soon after they get a shipment, so I'll keep trying.

I'm glad your son likes his shirt. I'm sure it was the coolest shirt in school - it's DU Hockey!

My wife made me laugh. She said, "you really shouldn't make bets. You suck at it." Laughing

Aubs, face it, the Hoody is a prick and looks like a bum.

Where is Tom Landry or Vince Lombardi when you need them? They would stick their foots so far up Belichek's ass he'd be tasting their leather oxfords for months.

You either have class or you don't. The Pats, as an organization do. The Hoody does not.

"San Francisco 49ers Assistant Head Coach Mike Singletary will meet with General Manager A.J. Smith and members of the Chargers’ front office Wednesday morning to discuss the head coaching position."

Don't want to get too much into this, but you should try to find how the Pats structure contracts. I'm not sure there would be anything on the internet about it though.
