|
|
Need some help with a powerslide in the flats. I have been able to get this down when the boat is turning. The turn helps keep tension on the rope. However, when I cut out on my heelside on the flat (when the boat is straight) and switch to my toe edge the rope becomes slack and gets pulled out of my hand. Any advice ? Also any good video around on a powerslide ?
Thanks for all the great tips in this forum .. helping me alot |

These are fun little things. but yeah, I can't seem to keep the tension in the rope when the boat isn't turning. |

mjlane, I can't do them but my guess would be that you're not switching from your heelside to toeside edge fast enough. _________________ It won't be easy, but when I get there it will be one of the most satisfying journeys of my life. |

Zerp, Thanks for the video link. Hopefully we'll get another nice weekend (or 2) before the rainy season starts. I'd like to give it a try before this season ends. _________________ If you're not living on the edge, you're taking up too much space! |

Make sure you go hard enough on your toe-side edge as well. If you watch the link above you can see the board is almost vertical and this is how it should be. |

i cut really hard on my hellside like the video guy is doing and then i turn the boardhard to my toeside and lean away from the boat, its easier to switch from hs to ts when you don't have fins on. |

These don't seem to work real well for me ... does the water have to be perfectly flat? We always have at least some chop where I ride. |

Watch that video again. If you look real close at the end you can tell the boat is turning. thats what made it so easy for him to keep the tension and hold the slide for a long time. Still its a whicked slide |

jjaszkow, the water doesnt have to be perfectly flat but it can certainly help when beginning to learn them
Try not cutting so hard out so that the boat is pulling forward more instead of from the side. This should reduce some of the slack _________________ Zach |

key points on this..
calm water def. helps.
- cut out hard but not to the point that you are getting slack.. in one quick motion you should be getting low and putting weight on your front foot. this helps release your edge and then turn the board.. hold your hand by your butt to keep the rope centered on your body..
the edge transfer should be quick as if you were cutting out hard heelside and then cutting back hard towards the wake.. (aka . surfing)
but in one quick movement. _________________ www.betacuts.com

I don't powerslide unless it's pretty calm. If it's too choppy you can't keep your edge on the water and it will toss you. If you've got too much slack in the line you're waiting too long to do it. You want to do it as your accelerating, not when you're as far as you can go. Cut hard and try switching to your edge earlier. _________________ You have just entered the twilight zone. |

Can you do that of a jetski or does it have to be of a boat tower? |

It shouldn't matter that you are behind a jet ski. You may bog it down a bit just because it's a jet ski, but other than that it shouldn't make much of a difference if done correctly. |
