I am fairly new to wakeboarding. I started riding this summer on a 1999 Liquid Force board and LF bindings (moon boots, I think). But I upgraded to a Liquid Force Substance 138 and CWB Torq's bindings before my trip today. I do not know if I should have jumped from that board to a Substance, but I think I can get used to it.
The only problem me and my buddy had were the bindings did not let go of our feet and we hit the water harder than we ever had before. I really liked the bindings and they are very comfortable, but I don't want to get hurt. Will they loosen up or is it normal for newer model bindings to not let go of your feet? If this is a problem I would like to trade them in before I get them to messed up. My other choices were the LF Alpha and CWB Duece. Any opinions would be appreciated. Thanks for the help.

Your feet should not come out of the bindings. And your set up should be fine for you to grow into, but it might take you awhile to get used to.

yea the higher more supportive bindings are specificly designed for your feet NOT to come out of them wich is a good and a bad thing...just be prepared to go with the board when you fall and youll be fine

Thanks for the tips, Iwas hoping to keep the bindings because they give me a lot of ankle support. ONe more thing is a LF Substance to much of a board for a beginner? I was scanning trough some of the topics and saw one guy saying a more advanced board would hinder progress if you are not ready for it. I got comfortable on it after a couple of tries yesterday but never felt as good as I did on my old board.

old board- http://www.wakeworld.com/boardguide/getboard.asp?boardid=361

I would not worry about it, I've come out of my Zeus a few times but only on bad falls. It was a bit odd for me, cause my first few times wakeboarding I used our clubs board which has XXL LF Ultras so I came out of them very easy, some times only on foot would come out (which is dangerous). You'll get used to the bindings, and the heel and ankle support that the hinge tech gives it great.

As for the board again I would not worry, yes some pro boards can hinder progress (think Parks or Byerly) but most don't. A lot of company's beg/int board are their old pro boards. EG the 06 Hyperlite Motive is an old Murray board, the 06 CWB Pure and FLames are old Absolutes (Schwenk pro boards). Again like the bindings it may take a little bit of time to come to terms with them.

Good Luck, enjoy.
