I finally got up the nerve to try a HS roll to blind this weekend. I was trying an "up" roll to blind (early roll to blind with handle pass). I seemed to get the rotation started, but couldn't get the handle pass.
Any ideas? I'll try to post some video later this week.
Thanks,
B

this is a muscle-type trick. you will need a very sharp pull on the handle into the small of your back as soon as you initiate the roll off the wake. once this is done, keep looking toward your rear shoulder with the rope very close (not more than 12 in from waistline) pass the handle and look for the shoreline on your landing.

Thanks Thomas,
I left my vid camera at the lake, so I havent got my video yet to see what was actually happening. I have a funny feeling I may have been trying to pull in too early or somthing... (like before I actually left the wake)
When I was trying, I would do 3 or 4 hs bs 180s with early handle pass to get the feel of it, and then go for it, but I wasn't having any luck getting the handle. Next chance I get to try it, I'll think about waiting a fraction of a second off the wake, and then giving a hard yank on the handle.

Thanks,
B

i do my blind 180 waaaaaay late. i never learned to initiate the 180 early. i get about 3/4 of the way through the trick and pull my front hand real hard to the small of my back to get the 180 around. it hurts when you don't pull hard, but it feels good to me.

holy raley-type cut. it looks like you come in screamin' at the wake and this adds a ton of line tension. THis is sort of a double edged sword as tension gives you pop, but makes the handle pass 10x harder.

i know that you might not get any more attempts this year, but try a much softer cut until that last 5 feet or so of trough, then build your edge. this will reduce tension and have enough pop to complete the rotation.

hmmm....
I thought I was taking a mellower cut!!! I guess I've done hs backrolls for so long, I just lean into them as hard as I can. Watching the vid though, I'd suspect you are right.
Thanks,
B
