Im just curious as to how high the average jump should be...Sometimes you see pics/video and it looks like the guys are 10' in the air???!!! I know thats not how high they actually are...But, how high on average from board to water should you be??

Depends on your wake. I get about 6-8 ft but I aim for wake to wake every time to save my knees. It's difficult to measure. The way I do it is while watching a video I watch where my head is in relation to the horizon. And then watch where my body is in relation to the horizon when jumping.

I would say for an avg wakeboaderer who knows what they're doing, height varies between 5-8ft. I get like 5ft avg, sometimes more but I only started this summer.

You sure about that? This is about 4ft, so let me know if you're getting 5ft on average.

No it's not. His legs are bent. If his legs were straight they'd probably be four feet above the ground.

Craig says he's on "medication" but the last time I went to his house (today to go wakeboarding) I walked in his room and see him taking bong rips upside down from his pull up bar... Stop lying to these people Craig.

Haha David that was pretty good. He is a wakeboarder right?

If you are a profecient rider and weight the hell out of your boat I can see one getting 6-8 feet of air each hit. WannabeSS, yeah after looking at your profile I see you are a realist... more like a real good BSer.

I'll include a pic of a HS Nose 3.

Well first... about the last picture bradmo42 ... if we rotate your body so that your board is directly under the handle and meassure from the board to the top of the wake we should get the height of the jump... (since the height should be the elevation of your point of gravity. So meassuring the elevation of the handle should be ok). I would say that is no more that tops 4 feet.

Craig-R Your last picture just has huge air... I will have to almost agree with your. If you meassure from the top of the wake to the bottom of your board and take away the difference if you would have had straight legs I could actually see that being 9 feet. Probably a little less but 8 feet for sure...

WannabeSS since your picture is tilted a little I would give you nore more than 4 feet of air at that picture... maybe another inch or two.

Craig-R in your first picture meassure the elevation of the handle between the guy you shopped in underneath the guy that is off-axis in the air and you get like a boardlength's difference which should mean about 138 cm air, but your weight is a little more above the handle when you are off axis so I can give it 5 feet.

Stephan I would give you 5' 6" or something like that on your hs nose 3.

Now everyone who dissagree with me and really think they do get 8 feet of air, just take a minute and think about why there is a picture of Trevor Hansen with an altitude-meter that reads 8.2 feet in every WBM from 2005, saying we are now at cruising altitude of... Why would Supra make such a big deal of Hansen going 8 feet if allmost every wakeboarder could do it??

It all has to do with how you meassure and sure if we meassure board position and someone is doing an invert you can get HUUUUGE air even though you centre of gravity just moved like 3 feet... Very Happy

big mike,

i consistently get air in the 8 foot plus range. and land 6-8 feet out in the flats. maybe you boys should try riding a malibu! the boat is sacked out with the 1250 pound stock ballast and the power wedge with an additional 5-7 people in the boat. i ride at 23.6 mph + or-. it is all about how tall you stand at the white wash. most people bend thier knees entirely too much and thereby absorbing the energy of the wake and not harnessing that energy to launch into the air!

some people have really stupid ways of measuring (Roos). Measure from the wake to the lowest point (handle, board, or body part), that is how most people do it. It is the people that don't do it like that that get the screwed up numbers.

yeah so what if you bend your knee's up to get an extra foot of air, i say from the lowest point of the any board/ body part to the base of the wake,

if the riders body is side ways or upside down and his head is 6' off the wake, then he got 6' of air,
none of this, well if he was right side up and his board was down it would be 4' of air.

Well a stupid way of meassuring elevation would be to not meassure elevation of the centre of gravity but rather how far one part of your body can move...
To meassure a jump correctly edge in to the wake and keep the same body position during the entire jump as you had when leaving the wake, then meassure the distance from either the board (if the board is parallell to the water) and the top of the wake or the elevation of you centre of gravity, for example your hips..

You should try not smoking crack before posting. Sacked out with 1250lbs of ballast? You mean stock ballast then right? Wow Rolling Eyes Don't post here if you're an idiot. Especially if you just want to give props to your Malibu boat which you don't even have.

Laughing ok i'll do that from now on. Who told you it was the correct way though? The other 5 people that measure it that way?

Either way this is very important cause there is nothing cooler than finding out how high you can jump. Colorful

No, it was not the other 5 wakeboarders that meassure that way...
It was every Physics professor in the world. If you want to meassure how high you can get your board, fine! But if you want to meassure how high you can get or rather how much pop you can get off the wake (the upwards force you can create) you should meassure elevation of your centre of gravity.

Well do as you like, but not meassuring from centre of gravity can create very strange numbers...
Anyhow... I'm impressed with most of you for your ability to get air.
Especially with Craig! Your air is Bubb Rubbing crasy! Shocked

Roos, I concur....measure the change in center of gravity from the top of the wake to the peak height of jump. Bending knees will get your board higher but doesn't mean you got more pop.

One of the most objective ways I have heard of measuring is by filiming and counting the number of frames until someone lands. Granted it is not a measure of vertical pop but does objectively measure 'hang time' which is going to be pretty closely related to vertical pop. I beleive Parks has done this in his D-Up contest

Based on my casual unscientific observations, I would say good wakeboarders routinely get 4-6' of pop off a normal weighted wake, ocassionally higher, but not on most hits. Now D-Ups and Trip-Ups are a different story where insane heights well over 12' are possible.

ding ding ding! you are figuring it out. Your measurement is for pop. The way I said (though I don't think you get it) measures height. If you want to see how much pop you can get you use your meathod. If you want to see how high you are when actually doing a trick you use the way I said.

WannabeSS- After looking at your pic I would have to agree that I'm not getting 5ft on avg, more like 4 on the better jumps. By looking at your pics I would have guessed 5-6ft of height, so apparently my scale of "judging height" is a bit off with wakeboarding. Regarding the 6-8ft I talked about before, one of the kids who goes to the camp with me definitely gets 6-8ft fairly consistently. The boat is a mastercraft x star with 850lbs in the tanks and 7-8 people on the boat.
