|
|
hi all.......i really only wakeboard at lake mead. I have been going there for the past 3 summers and commute from so. cal.
I have seen the lake at its worst and best. However when I am on the water I never really know how fast the wind is blowing. I have and always do check the weather report before i go.
Here is my dilemma.....weather.com has 18mph winds forecasted for friday but then under 10 mph winds for sat and sun. Almost every trip I have previously gone on has had under 12 mph winds, however like i stated i never know when im there how bad the winds really are. I have been there when storms roll through and its like the ocean.
Anyway I dont know whether to go and try to find some calm water or just wait til the next weekend. I just have a group of poeple ready and willing to go......and of course who doesnt want to go. However it is a 3 hr drive so i dont want to make that and then be stuck in whitecaps all day.
its seems like a very bizarre forecast since there are no t-storms or anything.....just wind on thurs and fri and then relatively calm elsewise.
Any suggestions? To go or not to go?
thanks |

It's been a while since I've been to that part of the country, but you might want to check out Lake Mojave too. We always went there instead of Mead because there was less boat traffic, and it's still a huge lake. Either way, I would still go. _________________ Whoever coined the term "Near Beer" was a very poor judge of distance... |

we have a 04 rinker that we converted to a wakeboard boat as much as possible........airboom tower.....5 blade prop ss. We store it out there.....makes for a much easier drive.
We most always stay at the best western in overton......fairly nice and cheap and allows you to get to the northern area of the lake.
I was thinking of calling the lodge at echo bay tomorrow or something and just asking them about the weather since tomorrow is suppossed to be similar to friday. Still havent decided if its worth the drive for just sat and sun.......we are have plans for another trip the following weekend. |

well...i think you are looking at 10 to 12mph on sat/sun but if you get up and rolling early i dont think the wind will be there until early afternoon
remember, any day on the lake is better then a day on the couch, unless of course your boat sinks! _________________ Cummins powered |

just spoke to someone at echo bay and they had rather daunting news. steady 20-30 mph wnds with gust to 40 mph. Said tomorrow was suppossed to be worse. They are getting a storm from canada. Said the lake was nothing but whitecaps.
I guess ill be staying home this weekend. |
