| is it possible for a 14 year old to start now that can barely do a tantrum to become a pro. With lessons at least once a week. |

| kyle, he never said he wouldnt practice or ride everyday he just said lessons once a week, therefore he could get lessons and things to work on during the rest of the week. Anyone could ride at the pro level if they get after it and ride hard and practice everyday and be consitent and have fun doing so. |

I hope mommy and daddy are rich, because it's highly unlikely you won't make much money at all.
Stay in school and get a job that pays enough to buy a boat..... |

| Why would you want to be a pro? You can make like 5x what a typcial pro makes by getting a good education and a better job and still wakeboard everyday. Is it so you can just live the lifestyle or do you actually think it's a career? |

| wakeboardingismypassion, sponsors don't necessarily look for the BIGGEST trick bag. they look for the most diverse. keep that in mind when you're trying to get sponsored. also, compete every chance you get. That'll help you get seen. |

You have to dedicate yourself to this. Becoming a pro at this requires a serious level of dedication above and beyond what most people think is needed.
One of the things that I have noticed that all of the pros have is style, which I would imagine is MUCH harder to develop than a diverse bag of tricks. If you don't have much style, you'd have better be able to throw down tricks that no-one else can.
Anyway, good luck, and have fun with it. |

No, I wasn't.
First, you are wrong. A lesson a week and riding ALL the time, he could ride pro. Maybe not make the pro circuit, but that isn't what riding pro is.
Second, my first thought isn't to be a prick. Even if I thought he couldn't do it, I wouldn't answer the way you did.
I'm fully convinced you will get run over by a beer truck or a city bus w/i the near future. |

kyle,
As he's only 14 and will be able to ride a lot, I guess he can make it...
Good luck

i dont think kyle is a prick. But i do think the original poster shouldnt bother posting on the forum about wanting to go pro, but be out there riding. Im pretty sure most if not all pro's went pro for having a love for the sport and some gifted talent. That being said, best of luck and go ride instead of posting. How bout we set a rule, for every post you make, you must learn 1 new trick =)..... anyways dont be discourage if ur 18 and not pro yet, just have fun with the sport. I bet ull get laid way more because you can wakeboard ha _________________ stay clean, like me

Have you spoken to pros? Pro coaches? Asked them what it took? If this is a great career? The good thing about this sport is that the pros are very approachable and you might want to chat it up with some of the mid level pros like Corey Bradley, JD, Matt Simms, etc. about what it took and how life is like when you are pro trying to get on the podium. Unless the people posting on this site are pros or work with pros on a daily basis, the advice you will get here will not be worth much. Most of us have little idea what it really takes to be a pro!
Good luck! |
