so ive got a super duper duper whooper good ivention, and it really effects slalom wakes. Someone explain the proper way to patent my invention, do I just go ahead build it then patent, or patent the idea, im somewhat lost in confusion about patents... Question

Get in touch with a Canadian and a US patent attorney.

You can do it yourself, but the resulting patent will probably be worth squat.

its not a good idea if it involves skiing. If it can make a 6 foot wake for wakeboarding, patent it Laughing

Natman, unless you have some good $ you probably wont want to go to an attorney. Our patent which is pending now cost $7k.

It depends on the state of the "art" or technology and how much research is involved.

At least get a consultation. If you fail to protect your idea properly and it's as good as you say, you'll probably get killed in competition.


EDIT: you can negotiate a flat fee, or a contingency (usu. royalty-based) after the consultation.
