Is height measured from the top of the wake or the water level?

How high is this?

Ahhh... the unanswerable question.

It is kinda like why ladies pants use crafty small numbers instead of inches.... everyone looks for a way to get the number more impressive. "My jeans are size 8..." NO NO NO your butt is 37 inches round.

Anyway.

I have a simple rule for measuring height. Problem is that it is brutally honest.

For wake to wake jumps...

1. You should be leaving the wake with the rope at you hips.
2. You should bring the rope to your hips in the air.

Your height is the difference of height of the handle.

This gets rid of

a) extra "height" by pulling in your legs.
b) extra "height" by holding the handle over your head
c) extra " height" by going off axis.

Your board is almost 5' off the top of the wake.

I usually measure difference in center of gravity. He sucks his knees up in that picture but I wouldn't say he consistently gets 5' of air. Probably more like 4'.

I usually measure from the bottom of the lake to the board Rolling Eyes , so it all depends on how deep the water is in that spot! Could be over 100' Shocked

I have found that the best way to measure jump height is take the difference of the altitude you are riding at and sea level. Once you have established that distance in feet convert it into miles or the fraction thereof. Then find the very center of the lake, drive to the furthest point away from that spot. Note the distance, hours or fraction of hours. If you have a GPS device then this part will be very easy. Once you arrive at the furthest part of the lake beach your boat. You will need to either use Satellite triangulation or find a stick you can make an hour glass with. If you have access to Satellite triangulation take readings of the output for about 3 hours. If you are using the sundial just stay ont he beach for about three hours or until the lake starts to become choppy. Get back in the boat and start riding take your original fraction of the miles or miles that we established inthe first step. Subtract the amount of time you spent on the beach in minutes. It is OK if it is a negative number. Now subtract the amount of time you have used to read this post and I assure you you have wasted exactly that much time!

Who cares how high you are, I usually get about 10 feet of air. I prove this by not allowing myself to be photographed while I ride. Laughing Laughing
