So now that the Hyperlite contracts have run out, Team Ronix is taking shape.
Parks, Harf, Sharpe, Copeland.
Amassault will be used to add to the B team roster.

Couple of the guys were seen rockin Ronix at the X-games demo.

LSEGHATCH, yes, there was no official Xgames wakeboarding, but there was a 'rail jam' in front of the home depot center, that was not for a medal.

None of the Ronix riders did the rail jam yesterday at the X Games, quite disappointing.

I talked to Eddie Roberts today at an INT event. He said Rusty is on the team too as well as Adam E. Eddie Roberts Jr. was riding the shape for the new Chad Sharpe pro-model. It looked a lot like the 3ds/TFD/drive. It had that kind of shape to it.

What would be the benefit of putting the molded fins on the middle of the board compared to the ends?

What the heck does Ronix mean? Is it an anagram for Square One or something? I see the "1" instead of the I, but other than that the name makes no sense. It even sounds kinda dumb - "Rahnicks" or "ROnicks"? Either way, Radar or Square One would have been better names.

Interesting that they have molded fins closer to the middle. That in itself would cause a couple things to happen although combined with the rest of the shape the effects could be different:

1. Softer landings
2. Promote edging on the center of the board instead of more on the tail
3. Decreased pop
4. More grippy when neutral (would want to throw you over the front more on sketchy landings but would help if you always go over the back)

I'd be interested to give it a ride and see what the total effects are.

Those small molded fins aren't new. Just look at the 2006 Hyperlite Blur and Drive. The Ronix board looks almost identical.

I threw up in my mouth a little bit when I read this..
Softer landings?? How?
Edging on the center because of a small bump? How?
Decreased pop? How will those decrease pop?
....

It is a Drive. This is a board that is made by a group of guys who do not ride but have an axe to grind. Nothing more. Did you see the Alliance article? The picture looked like a bowling team from Buffalo.
The whole Ronix thing makes me want to vomit..

OK, I took a deep breath. I'm good now.

You optimise the transition of horizontal motion to vertical by having the most and the flattest surface area which is why wider boards pop harder. As a contrast when you land there is little cushion to pad the landing so it's much harder. Basically the flatter the middle of the board is the bigger the pop and the harder the landings are. When you add obstructions such as fins to the middle (where you pop and where you land) it breaks up the water better which decreases pop and softens landings.

Let me say that off first glance I don't think it's a good idea. We have fins on the ends for a reason. But I can't imagine if it was terrible they wouldn't release it so who knows.

With all the stuff i hear about board companies now, i dont see how this is a bad idea... New theories, new ideas, innovation pushin the sport further... who knows, maybe CWB is lookin at that right now and just came upon a new invention on their boards or bindings... people need to be more open minded. Take advantage of people wanting to start a new company and expand their ideas. Neutral

alafiaboarder, "people wanting to start a new company".

More like folks that mismanaged the first company got kicked to the curb and now have a chip on their shoulder so they started another company.

Problem is, they are the same people that mismanaged the first company. What makes anyone think that won't happen again?

alafiaboarder, Good point. Just look at how long it took for shaped snow skis or fish surfboards to emerge. Those were mature sports and had a revolution.
