I have to have knee surgery this tuesday and my riding is coming to an end so i need your help desperately!!! I've finally pushed myself to getting consistant on my 180s and 3s and finally mixing in the grabbed 180s. A few weeks ago i got pulled by a boat with a tower and got the guts to try the tantrum. I kept good form and made it all the way around on the third try but couldn't hold on to the handle (not used to the rotation whatsoever, and no tramp).

This video is from a week ago on the boat we get pulled by, no tower but will throw a decent wake with enough weight in it. We started the rope about 55 ft and i add another 5 foot extension when i ride so i have more rope to cut with. Any more length and the wake turns to stuff.

I had a lil better one before this, which i ended up brusing my ass with the board on the fall but the sun is in the camera the whole time so critique with this one (there is plenty to critique me with). I was pretty damn sore but i wanted to get another one on tape no matter how ugly it looked.

I can tell i'm not throwing my head back at all, pretty much looking at the board, and i don't trip my heel against the wake at all. Everyone keeps saying keep the handle closer to my body but i dunno how to translate that and actually do it. It's easy to blame not having a tower and the rope tension, but i am determined to land one this weekend before my season is over. (what most people say is true, the crashes don't hurt, so i suggest trying one if you think you are ready!)

Thanks for the help in advance and sorry for no youtube, their email wouldn't show up in my mailbox.

Alright it wouldn't accept my file type, i will try to get the vid on here later!

square up at the wake and throw it straight back, let go with your back hand.

The key to the tantrum is to wait untill the very last moment. Even if you think you are at the top of the wake wait another moment before you throw it.
If you do it right you will get the full rotation without any problem.

I can't watch the video from work but I think you are probably throwing it to early.

My buddy does the same thing you do.
For being new at the trick, you have a pretty good approach and pretty good pop.
What may help is letting go of the rope with your back hand earlier- it will help you square up to the wake.
Throw your head straight back off the top of the wake and keep your head back and eyes open so you can spot the second wake as it comes around.
Most importantly for your situation is to watch your handle position. You're pulling the handle up over your head and across your body, and that is what seems to be pulling the board out around behind you instead of up over the top of you.
Keep your arm low and straight out to the the side.

Example- Ride at the base of the wake and hold the handle in one hand. using the index finger of that hand, point at the boat. Your arm should be in line with your finger, and your shoulders should be in line with your arm. That is the position you want your upper body to be in throughout the rotation.
If you were to ride like that and pull the handle up to head level and across your body, bad things would happen. When you do that while airborne, it pulls you out of position much faster than it would on the water.

Thanks for all your help, will get it down this weekend, i promise!

Anyone thinking of trying this trick soon, go for it like i said earlier. Ignore every mental barrier and have fun with it. The falls are a hell of a lot less painful than any fall i have had since i started.

I am trying to learn a switch Tantrum and having a similar problem. I keep doing a 180 in mid air. I think I am doing what goinbig143, said about letting my arm out and not holding it into my hip. I let go of the rope with my back hand before leaving the wake, so I think I am squaring up pretty well. The strange thing is regular foot it is impossible for me to do 180. This morning I was kind of landing at a 90 to the boat. Any tips would be great. thx.

try and pop up instead of going out... your knees are super absorbed when you hit the wake and you are coasting in just a tad too much, cut longer and try and take the trick straight up, your momentum wont allow you to case, you should clear the wake every time

Shakopee. we ride at lake odowds a lot by stonebrook golf course. Not the greatest lake but it will work, i get stuffed up really bad from whatever is in the water. Guess i need to land everything and not get my nose under the water.

Back to the tantrum. I had a decent form one (no video) but didn't get the rotation all the way and cased my family jewels on the wake. First bad crash i have had, but still determined to get it tomorrow before my surgery. Maybe the backroll too?
