T/S back roll you have to really think about making sure you don't go early on. Do the whole progressive edge thing, and hold your edge all the way through the top of the wake and wait till you feel the pop before you start to throw it. Chances are if you keep comming up short you are going way to early. _________________ www.hyperlite.com

Dude just go for it. These guys are correct in saying you can get injured, but that can be said for any move in wakeboarding, from the simplest to the most difficult. I've seen crashes where the boarder looked like they would come back up without their heads and have them say "nah that didn't hurt a bit" and others that looked innocent that nealy killed them. So, in other words don't be crazy. If your confident you can land the trick then go for it. You really just have to recognize where your skill level is at. If you just started and you can barely jump the wake then no you shouldn't try a toeside backroll. Generally most boarders learn the basics starting with grabs and 180's then move to inverts. If you do think you're ready the trick section on this site should have a video and explanation for you to read up on. So you decide for yourself.

| If you can do a tantrum and a regular toeside wake to wake then you can do a toeside backroll! Just make sure you get all the pop possible so you don't come up short. I actually over-rotate mine alot so don't be afraid to take it as big as you can. With that said, you can also do this trick pretty well with one wake instead of going wake to wake. Have fun! |

I can't do an invert but I can tell you this:
The way to tear your ACL is to land with your knees locked. That's pretty much how it works all the time. The reason it happens more on inverts is probably because people mess up their rotation a bit and try to reach their legs out to land just a little sooner. Don't do that! Keep your knees bent. You might not pull a landing out of a bad trick but at least you'll have intact ACLs to try it again. |

| Come in nice and easy about how you do your t/s wakejumps.Keep your edge all the way up the wake and throw your head straight back and push your chest to hte sky at the top of the wake and it helps me to hold on with both hands till i spot my landing but whatever works for you. Also dont throw it to early thats the onlt times it hurts cause you get the breath knocked out of you.Thats what i did when i first started them but just go for it. |

Blabel,
The actual flip on both tricks is a back layout, that is how they are similar. The flip is the same while the direction of motion is different. Did that make any freaking sense to anyone but me!?! |

| Chase I see where you are coming from but I don't think they are similar at all. I guess you flip the same but the technique off the wakle is almost opposite. |

| Yeah, you're right. For the tantrum you come off of your edge and for the toe backroll you need to edge all the way through the wake! Boy, nothing like confusing someone when you're trying to help! Sorry, next time I will be a little more specific and clear. Good luck! |

This works for me:
I try to take the jump a little longer than w 2 w so that the board wont catch the wake on the way down. Then I throw myself backwards on top of the wake and release with my back hand.
I don't know if that makes any sense but those are the things I try to think of when I try it _________________ ------ BOOO -------- |

| Phil and Chase's explanations sound best to me-definately wait til you get the pop! Last year I threw one early, came up short and tore an abdominal muscle. That was one of the most painful injuries I've ever had. (and I've had alot) |

For this trick, use your toeside edge all the way through the wake. A lot of people trying this trick think that you must come into the wake, then back off your edge, open up, and try to flip back. You will find yourself either under or over rotating it with very little air.
Instead, picture yourself doing it like a heelside backroll, only from the toeside. Use that progressive edge, all the way through the wake, and when you land, your on that toeside edge again. Grabbing the board indy will help make the trick smoother. Good luck. |

I found holding on to the handle with both hands as long as I can also helps the rotation... if you let go too soon you will come up short....
I don't think of it as a flip, I think of it as a power move....(like a HS BACKROLL) I accelerate through the wake holding a strong edge and riding all the way up. the motion is similar to riding all the way up the wake and kicking your feet out in front of you... except you don't really do this the wake does, if you power through it correctly.
This is one trick you DON"T want to half a$$ as mentioned above...
The first few times I tried it let go with the back hand too soon and tried the big old back flip... I ate the wake so hard with my face my neck hurt for a week.
