hey all, I was just talking to some boarders yestiddy when we were doing our runs when one of them said NOT to ever use binding lube because it will disintegrate the bindings. is this true? I have pretty expensive bindings for a guy with no job so I want to maximize the life. they are 2006 Liquid Force Transits. I use newt Juice lube.

i think something like newt juice would be fine for not deteriorating the bindings. if you're worried about it then something like soap would probably not be a good choice. in order to actually get a noticeable amount of deterioration, the bindings would have to be submerged in the stuff for like years or something. even with every day use i would think they woiuld be fine. it's more likely that the bindings would break before they deteriorate. i say keep using your lube.

Honestly, I have changed my stance on the disintegration issue. It probably will but it would take more seasons than you will realistcly spend in those bindings. Unless you plan on keeping them for 6-8 years you would probably be ok.

I think this is based on the use of soap in bindings, not a high quality eco-friendly binding lube. Soap is bad for neoprene and rubber (that's why you shouldn't put your wetsuit in the washing machine). But binding lube made from natural vegatable oil or something like that is not going to dry out rubber and neoprene.

JPK hit it right on the head. From what I understand, using liquid soap/detergent is what breaks them down...and messes up the lakes/rivers/etc. Dishsoap is for dishes and binding lube's for bindings. Your newt juice lube should be fine...for nature's sake, make sure it says "biodegradable" on it.

it does. thanks guys. but I replpace boards alot more often then bindings, so I need them to last a few years. and I board every day from ~ April to Late November. 2 30-minute runs a day, one at 8:00 AM and one at sunset, and that's just me. my friends and my brother and his friends use my board also. so they get used. ALOT.

our local shop suggested using shaving cream. we tried it on the board we demo'd, and it worked really good. and theres no slippery residue once it hits the water.
