So I'm going to purchase my first board.. I'm a mediocre rider- just accomplished wake to wake. I am looking at the -$350 price range.
CurrentlyI have a few options.
I have been looking at:
06 O'brien Vision 135
06 Hyperlite Motive 134
05 Hyperlite State 135
06 CWB Sol 135
Any opinions? |

I picked up the O'brien vision this year, and although I haven't used it yet (no working fatsac, no bindings), I would say it looks to be a solid board. It was suprisingly light to me, and overall I would rate it as a decent board. It comes down to preference. I would take a peek at the liquid force team board, I think you might like it. Tell us what you are looking for in the board itself too. All are good choices, but if we could get some more background information we might be able to help you out a bit more.

To be honest, I'm looking for a board that is a little tiny bit beyond my level so I can grow into it. I've pretty much narrowed it down to the state and vision. I mean I'm also looking to be a little bit more original. I don't want to have the same board the clinic uses (motive).
State benefits
Helps with toeside
subtle 3-stage rocker ( Keeps smoothness + pop)
Sounds to be more stable
Hyperlite.
Vision benefits
Continuous rocker- but is said to have great pop.
Sounds to be fast as well..
Vision is the 06 model - not that it makes much diff. |

i ride a Motive 144 and it is/was and excellent beginner board. i just started riding a month ago so i'm still happy with it. but i plan on getting a new board next season. sorry, other than that i have no input on your choices. the only other board i've ridden is a CWB Flame. nice board too - good pop. _________________ If anyone needs me... | STR- Yeah, the vision has ALOT of rocker, even though it is continuous, gurantee you will be satisfied with its pop. |

| i ride the sol and it likes to watch me fall alot. i like the board but it does not like that i do not yet progressive edge. it tells me that the progressive edge is what it likes. and if i don't start doing it, the sol will always watch me fall. it rides in the flats and ollies nice tho. good cut and movement. |

| Hey guys thanks for your replies! I ordered the State today though. I ordered online and well you know how versatile the State is supposed to be.. I just figured it was my safest choice. It seemed to have more benefits than the vision too.. "strong toeside riding". It is a "subtle 3 stage" I believe.. so it should be decent pop too. |

| I personally do not see how one board would be stronger toeside than another board, it's not like they make unsymmetrical edges. But either way I think you would have been happy, and I hope you enjoy your new board. |

good choice on the State... let me know how that asymmetrical thing works out for you... i looked at 'em when i was board shoppin but didnt know how that would work out for me since i was just starting... so i took the safe out, i thought, with the Motive. _________________ If anyone needs me... I mean I found a really good deal ( I think) on that 05 state.. it was less than the 06 motive.. so I jumped on it. I also talked to my friend Adam- who is like awesome and an instructor. He said the board hasn't changed at all this year other than the graphics.
I mean the selling point for me was probably the versatility that was advertised. A coach and 23 riders worked on that board.. so it's not that risky. |
