I did the other day..It is pretty hot considering that the water here is already warm but when it comes to learning new tricks it gave me alot of convidence. I'm not the best wakeboarder but I was trying new things like wake-wake 180's and stuff. It probably didn't help much but it gave me some extra confidence. It probably wouldn't be a bad thing to try if you are trying to learn to do different advanced tricks but are afraid of getting hurt. I know that when I get a little better I will defidently be using it more often.

haha, wow.

so your using a wetsuit in warm water? jeez man, grow some balls. a wetsuit isnt protection, sure it might soften the sting of impact a little, but i assume if the waters warm, then the air is pretty warm too. that sounds like overkill.

we use a wetsuit up here, cause the water is still under 60 degrees. peak mid summer water the temp only gets around low 70's. still feels cold when the air is over 90, but it feels good then.

Nah it still hurts when I fall and stuff but I tend to cut harder and stuff when I'm wearing it. Its only a spring suit so its not really going to do that much but I can guarantee you that if I was a little better and if I had my progressive edge down and I was able to get enough air I would try a backflip or a some shti like that even though i suck and I would fall on my face

can't say i've ever felt safer wearing a wetsuit. not quite sure how it would stop my acl from tearing or my head from smacking the water. so, um, you honestly thought the wetsuit was preventing you from getting hurt? and yes, wakeboarders have used wetsuits before; they've been around for ATLEAST 2 or 3 weeks.

Well obviously they have used them before, I meant if they used them for confidence.

yeah i agree with everyone else...thats pretty ridiculous. if you're not prepared to feel a little sting from taking a hard fall then maybe you should find a safer sport. a wetsuit isnt going to protect from any actual injury that involves broken bones, torn ligaments, bleeding, etc. so just think of it that way. and im absolutely positive none of the pro wakeboarders have used wetsuits for confidence, only to keep their balls from shriveling

Wow you really tried using a wetsuite to wakeboard in? I had no idea that was even possible I thought they could only be used for surfing/scuba diving... Rolling Eyes Laughing

I think they can help to a small degree. I know my nuts didn't hurt NEARLY as bad after landing spread eagle on my first two roll attempts as they did on my first few 360 attempts WITHOUT the wetsuit in which I also landed spread eagle. Bottom line, if it gives YOU more confidence, stick with it. A lot of wakeboarding is mental so if it helps, who cares what some of the a-holes have posted here.
I'm actually considering using a cup now that it's too warm for a wet suit. Wink

The only thing a wetsuit will protect you from is smacking your balls on the water...but you can just wear some sweet biker shorts for that one...maybe your boyfriend has a pair you could borrow?

calm down everybody. I agree with QNev, everbody has their quirks, if he wants to wear a wetsuit cuz he thinks it makes him wakeboard better, fine, good for him, i wish i had something like that to give me confidence. when your first learning tricks like w2w 180s its hard.

I will agree that wearing a shorty when the water's chilly kinda lets you believe that it'll at least keep your limp intacts when they try to break off. Just ignore all jerks around here busting on you. They take pleasure busting on newbies.

Sorry, I didn't realize that asking whether or not wearing a wetsuit increased your confidence was such a big deal. I guess it was incredibly retarded, I mean it only makes your falls less painful. How rediculous for one to think it might give someone the courage to try a new trick, especially considering how a lot of this sport is mental - "this is going to hurt so bad", "there is no way i can land this I am going to kill myself", "there are hot ass girls on the boat and this is going to be embarressing as hell".

Also wetsuit retrict your movment since they have to be skin tight to hold back the water, i personally hate wearing wetsuits since it makes it a bitch to pass the handle or do any serious movement whatsoever

1. Wetsuit will restrict your movement hence decreasing your ability to execute tricks through a full range of motion, leaving you open to over/under rotations and injury.
2. Personally wearing a wesuit or even heater top i think your less aware of your body and how far your pushing it as its not as sensitive (as its covered). example: Wearing a heater top recently i caught a bad edge on a spin and managed to mildly strain my bicep/shoulder from hanging onto the handle, didnt realise why my arm was so weak until i took the top off.. the pressure from the top was over my whole arm so it was desensitized in a way..
3. Wetsuits are a b!tch to get on and off and look gay and piss me off because i have to screw around with my knee brace to get it over the goddamn wetsuit anways and its less effective..

Hence i conclude.......... your wrong.

It's all mental. Sure the wetsuit might stop a little sting, but not enough to be really noticable. That's like saying I wakeboard better with my pink boardshorts, they don't really help you perform better, it's all in your head.

Rolling Eyes

maybe like a rash guard but deff not a whole wetsuit...

u know wut i think is funny, is how everybody was bustin on him, one person said its not a bad idea, and then everybody else jumps on that like ya, that would work... this site is Bubb Rubb hilarious

whats really funny is people like you who dont read the thread. after you made a statement implying us that called the idea ridiculous saw a positive post and then decided to follow that one person, i decided to re-look over the thread. nobody did what you imply.

a few people agree with him, some dont, and some are just posting for the hell of it, hence the "ever wear 5 wetsuits" comment.

please explain what you mean by your comment. im very curious.

rob.corum, that's true. It won't protect you from serious injuries like blown knees and blown ear drums and whatnot, being as it wasn't designed for safety. Wakeboarding is all psychological when it comes to throwing shiz down so if it helps, wear it

Genius Rolling Eyes Yeah, I think that's what he meant. Wearing a wetsuit makes you invicible.
Either that or what he meant was since it can perhaps help a little bit as far as the stinging or racking of the nads, that it helps his confidence a little and therefore is useful.
Look, if wearing a certain pair of boardshorts, a helmet, a wetsuit, a wristband, or whatever helps your confidence just a little, then by all means wear it. It may or may not prevent injury, but if it makes you feel better, more power to ya.
For those with the IQ's in single digits who keep responding "duhhhhhh.....it won't prevent a blown knee." You've all taken too many falls on your domes and perhaps a helmet is in order?

Ha! Totally, man. Wear a headband and you might be totally ready for anything.

Actually, now that you mention it, that would make for a hilarious video. I might deck out in a headband, wristbands, and some sweet white tennis shorts. Laughing

Ahhhh.....the age old diplema, Vanity vs. Comfort / Protection.

Anyway, I was reading through my PWC brochure a few months back and they recommend wetsuits to protect the rider from water body contact at high speeds. I read that and thought they were just covering their libability bum against wrongful enemas, but anyway there are some companies out there that believe there is some measure of protection when wearing a wetsuit.
