there are alot of you guys around, I got my tower last season. This is an expensive hobby not eveyone can drop $50K on a phat V drive with all the bling...
riding is what its all about it does not really matter what behind as long as you can carve some turns and catch some air that should be enough to make anyone happy....

I am in this club, 18.5 Foot 1993 Manta Ray I/O, 4.3L. No tower or anything. Paid for, good on gas and its gets me on the water. I need three more seasons out of this one and then I will pay cash for another used. It doesn't matter what kind of boat you have if you are having fun. _________________ S. Stojak |

Sometimes it's just the crappier boats that make you appreciate wakeboarding more... Learning on a fully loaded VLX will really turn against your attitude to non-wake boats. I learned behind a 17ft 135 HP Glastron outboard (not bad) and then I had an opportunity to ride behind an older Air Nautique with ballast and loved it.
My family finally bought a boat, which wasn't truly a wake boat: An 18ft Rinker i/o, which we later added a tower to. I get the chance to ride behind the Nautique once or twice a year and it's a nice treat, but the i/o does the trick just fine and I can't complain. _________________

I was in that boat(no pun intended) since the begining of my wakeboarding we had a 1986 17foot larson w/ an inline 4cyl. wanted to get a tower, my dad woulndt let me, wanted to get ballast, but the boat had no 12v outlet to fill w/ so we used a few cinder blocks, but not enough to make a difrence because my lake is too shallow to leave them in the boat. I wanted to buy a pylon but my boat couldnt take the ones you buy because of the placement of the fuel tank. I finaly built a homemade pylon which broke on us twice(not my fualt-if I were alowed to use the material I wanted to I.E. cable and steel it woudnt have broke, but my father wouldnt let me put that it in his boat until after he saw it break), and we are lucky it never killed one of us. finaly after years of the boat breaking down and saving every penny I convinced my dad to buy half of a used inboard wakeboarding boat.
P.S. 1986 Larson for sale if your interested...haha im jk I wouldnt wish that boat upon anybody who wanted to use it for anything but leisurly boatrides w/ some brew. |

Its like a 197sometin Sylvan, gotta Evenrude 55 . My neighbor just bought a Lund last year, I was talking to him last friday and he was saying he wants to take like me and my other neighbor out, cuz he can get it with a huge wake. I've ridden in it too and it looks fun. Our boat runs really nice, we put new flooring in a little bit ago. Hopefully we get a new boat soon, my dads been looking. _________________ Commit To It |

She's nothin special, but she's paid for, floats fairly well, and taught us how to take care of one - and which friends to take out. We plan to buy a new one next year - so when we have a payment, we'll already have all the toys. |

Pilot Ryder - That boat is a story in itself... I'm actually gettin' ready to post a whole thing about it... Short version - bought it used for $3K 2 years ago... knew it needed interior; ended up needing a few other things. I've since overhauled the engine, rewired electrical 100%, custom interior with custom upholstery, new floor, full stereo, etc... As for sterling - From what I found, they barely existed in Texas - never heard of another sterling... and they use a Yamaha sterndrive, which was only produced for 2 years... the only guy I know who works on them is in NY (I'm in California) - and the parts are nearly impossible to get a hold of... I've probably put 5 times what I'd ever get out of it into it... Long story short - research before you buy. I've bought a garage-full of tools and learned a lot about boats, engines, etc since buying that... I plan to get one more season out of it, then buy a newer v-drive next year. |
