|
|
I have 4.3 Merc I/O. I am currently running a 3 blade factory Alum prop. Is a stabilizer worth the money to improve the wake for a newbie (not into many tricks yet, but will be someday, learn now on with stableizer, or wait)?
Also, and more importantly, I have just started wakeboarding, but a buddy is having a little trouble getting up, is there anything I should do with the trim to make it easier. I rarely use the trim cept when top speeding it, or when worried about shallow water. I am sure I am missing out on a lot with the trim, what does a newer boat owner need to know about the trim? Does trimming it up/down = better wake?
Thanks for any insight! |

trim all the way down just gets you out of the hole faster..
the wake should be highest with trim all the way down ie sinks the back of the boat the farthest down. the only thing i can tell you to do with your friend is start real real slow.. let him start to plane while still kneeling then signal him to turn sideways and have the board pointing at the boat then slowly stand up then speed up so he doesnt sink... just keep at it till he gets it. |

haha you can always try to have him dock start just make him sit at the end of the dock with the board in the water and punch it. Thats how i finally got my friend up after a day of failures |

| in response to your trim i have a i/o and ride the trim 1/4 of the way up, however this is only after i get up. it is easier to get up with it down and then move it up some. also if you need some weight throw some sand bags in the boat. |

The trim may be that way with your boat, but I have an I/O, and the wake is best at 1/4 up trim. It shapes far more nicely, and gets a higher peak.
Start with the prop all the way down, then trim up to your liking.
Think about the physics of the prop. If you trim it all the way down, it pushes the boat straight forward. If you trim it up, then the propeller is facing more skyward, and the thrust is in a downward direction, pushing the back of your boat lower. _________________ People should not be afraid of their governments.
