i recommend duck footed something like this \ / its more comfortable for me so try it out... and if the board is on the smaller side for you id prefer keeping the bindings as far apart as they can go... only if its comfortable for you, this will help in riding switch and doing tricks

Duck foot is more of an advanced setup. As a begginer you want your front foot angled, and your back foot straight. You also probably want the whole setup to be twords the back of the board.
hyperlite.mafia means going like this:

(___\___/___)
Where as I suggest going somewhat like this:

(____\____|__)

In the end it's just how you feel comfortable.

So my front foot angled and my back foot straight is the best for beginners? I am right handed so I think i would feel more comfortable with my right foot forward, is this straight??? Twisted Evil

personally I wouldn't recommend starting with just one foot angled...I would go ahead and learn with the proper stance or it will just makes things more difficult when you swap to it down the road. IMO the duck stance is much more comfortable and stable anyway, and you have more balance on the board. Here is one thing that might get you started. Jump up in the air, and how you land is typically about the angle you would want when boarding. Its natural to land in an athletic duck stance, start with that approximate width and angle on your bindings and see how that feels.

SWeeT!!!! THat is an interesting proposition!!! I jumped up and I really did land in a duck stance! This is really a good indicator of the stance that I should be bringing to the water??? One more thing, how do you know if your bindings are to small?? AND, if they are will this pose problems in my riding, i mean I CAN put them on and they fit snug put my toes hang off the end...... Crazy Eyes Twisted Evil Shocked

In reference to which foot you want forward, typically a right handed person will ride "normal" which is left foot forward and right foot back. You might ride "goofy" which would be right forward, left back. They say the way to find out how you ride is to stand with your feet shoulder width apart, and have your buddy (or someone who hates you) push you from behind...whichever foot you try to catch yourself with (the foot that you move) will be the foot you want as your front foot.
In reference to riding duck footed or neutral, Hyperlite recommends starting with your back foot neutral and your front foot 18 degrees forward. That's how I started. That being said, eventually you will want to be duck footed, and when I changed it took a little while to get used to it, so I would recommend starting duck footed...it's one less thing you will have to change and get comfortable with.
The final point is to start with you rear binding all the way towards the back of the board. Your front binding should be all the way back too, but on a 135 board, you might put it more forward if that's more comfy. Again, eventually this will change to be more centered on the board, so you may or may not want to start there if you don't want to have to change later. If I had to do it all over again, I would start duck footed at the back of the board.
Hope it helps,
timmy

When I started, I started duckfooted. It is a much more athletic and stronger stance and you are going to be using it eventually so I say why not start out like that. As far as the bindings go, that is a matter or preference too. I like mine very tight, my feet are actually sore after a long set. Guys i ride with like them looser but they should be snug enough where you don't come out of them after a fall.
