Most people recommend riding at about 18-22 mph. The group of guys I ride with are all beginners and we ride at about 20-21 mph. I think I've heard 50 ft of rope is a good starter length, although you can always shorten it if you need to. The shorter the rope, the narrower the wake will be when you start doing wake-to-wake jumps. I don't know if there are any advantages to longer ropes...maybe someone a little more experienced than me can fill in the blanks there...
