I attempted for the first time this weekend to get up on my new board. I popped out of the water to my surprise each time I tried, but soon after found myself face planting hard. I ended up with a very sore neck and a 36 hr migraine. Needless to say, I was quite frustrated. Any tips you could provide on keeping myself upright would be helpful.

I have looked at a few of the other posts and noticed the trick of keeping the rope at hip level. Also, I understand the need to keep my weight back to prevent the front edge of the board from catching the water. Any additional advice you could provide me would be great!

What does it *feel* like is happening? Also, is your spotter noticing anything before you fall?

If you're losing balance, try riding with the opposite foot forward. If you're catching the front of the board in the water, lean back an excessive amount to overcompensate. And as you get gradually more comfortable balance you're right to a more neutral (yet still weight more towards the back) stance.

All i can think of is to hold the rope with 2 hands and have it by ur waste...if its too high or with one hand it can pull you forwards, and as Beeman said...what does your spotter see?

Aside from practice, you can attempt two things. Let got of the rope with your back hand, and load the weight up on your back leg, while staying in line with the boat. Or buy a flick to help you get better and develop good habbits.
