As a new boarder, I've been kind of intimidated by the injury threads that seem to be pretty regular around here. And the Compound Tib/Fib pictures (you know the ones!) definitely got my eyes bugging out for a minute.
I'm all about learning from other's mistakes, so my questions are: What trick were you doing - or trying to do - when you really messed yourself up? Which tricks are the more dangerous ones? Share the stories! |

| i still suck at wakeboarding, i'm getting pretty close to HS FS 360s, and tantrums, i only hurt myself on 360s when i dip the nose of the board on landing and faceplant hard, i've gotten one bloody nose and one concussion, not that big of a deal. |

There's always a chance of getting hurt on any trick if you land wrong or something.
I fell on a simple ollie 180 & my hand went through the handle. Jacked my wrist pretty bad. _________________ www.texaswakeboarders.com |

| Pete Rose's have crippled both of my knees. Blew out my ear drum on a tootsie roll. Tore all ligaments in my ankle on a t/s oa 5. Strained my shoulder really bad from batwings too. |

A friend of mine tore his pectorial muscle away from his chest when a Raley went wrong.

Worst I've done is rip the the ligaments in my ankle (recurrence of an old injury) when I was learning backrolls. I got all the way round but the nose went into the water first, my foot came out of the front binding and then the board levered on my back ankle. I had to have the binding taken apart to get it off my foot!
Hurt like hell but the worst thing was I felt like a right plum! |

| I anihilated my knee on a backroll, spun low and fast but still came up short and my nose dug in, front foot came out but back stayed in, My foot was still in when the board was standing up like stright and so was I, I could barely walk for like 2 weeks. |

| I broke my 9th rib a couple of years ago, just with a normal 3, i landed it rode away but I landed in a weird position and then it just broke... Anyway, still I think its a pretty safe sport! If u sometimes see skateboarders or bmx guys... If they go down fast it hurt a lot more i guess. |

| Strained or tore my oblique last week trying a backroll. Got around, landed on my edge and held the handle too long and felt my muscles just streeeeeeeeetch. Hurt a little the first time, tried it again, same thing only hurt 5X as bad and now when I cough it feels like somebody is stabbing me. |

I broke a toe on a powerslide in choppy water, don't ask how. I also landed a frontroll a little stiff legged, and hurt my knee a little. Not bad, but it hurt to walk on it for like a day. _________________ www.munsonski.com

I blew out my ACL MCL and both Menisci in April on a whirly because I didn't stretch before I got in the water and just started throwing tricks without warming up and when I landed my knee kind of just gave out. It sucks because I landed a whirly 5 the day before and we were shooting some video proof that day, but it was my 6th or 7th trick off the boat. _________________ www.soswakeboard.com

| Torn miniscus or cartilage (still waiitng on the MRI) doing a stalefish, something I've done a hundred times, just landed wrong, ended up locking and popping out the knee. Stuff happens. |

| Last year I started trying heelside backrolls. I didn't exactly complete the rotation and the front edge of my board dipped into the water. My body slapped into the water... I had a sore neck and a headache for two days. Bad case of whiplash! Can't wait to try again this year! haha |

I am just starting, so I haven't injured myself yet. Had plenty of faceplants, though. I used to race motocross, and hurt myself numerous times. I figure any accident on the water with a wakeboard on your feet has got to hurt less than an accident on the dirt with a motorcycle between your legs. hahah! _________________ 1998 Moomba Kanga w/ 6' Skylon pylon
