here's the deal went out today for the first time with my new line (A-Line) nice rope and that but i had it at the shortest loop hole but it just seemed like i was back anywhere from 3 to 7 feet from the clean edge of the wake. i tried everything to have the boat slow down, speed up, trim up/down...nothing work. has anybody ever tried to short the rope someway. i'm just hesitant to mess up the outer coating because it is a brand new line...thanks

bammer24, there was a link on here showing how to tie a knot that holds, but isn't really a "knot" so it just comes right undone. I use it, but would rather have the pictures and their description than tell you how, it would be easier, I'll try to find it.

there's a way to shorten your rope w/o making a knot or messing up the coating. it's really hard to explain, so just try and follow, and sorta mess with it in your own way. first off, you HAVE to have a pylon. then, make two loops about 4 inches apart, and about 6 inches around. put the loop closest to the hondle over the pylon, then bring the other one under it, then back over the pylon, when you pull the handle tight, it will cinch it down, and you'll have the exact length you want. i used to have to do this all the time before the 2.5 foot extensions came out. hope this helps. later.

that's exactly it, i forgot that you have to overlap the loops, but yeah, that's exactly what i used to do, i've just been babied the past few years with the right length ropes for the wakes i've been riding. but anyway that should work perfect, and you can adjust it within inches of where you need it. that's also a really good way to dial in the sweet spot for wakesurfing. later.

Geez. I've never seen someone make tying a clove hitch so complicated. Laughing

I have an A-line and wanted it shorter as well. I shortened mine 5 feet. Here is how I did it.

First I determined where I wanted the end of the main line to be (what length). I then cut the rope about 9 inches past this point. Next, I very carefully cut through the coating with a razor blade (without cutting the inner rope) and then peeled it back 18 inches, exposing 18 inches of the inner rope. Next I slid some heat shrink down the rope (we'll return to that in a minute). Next I folded the exposed rope in half (making a loop). About 3 inches from the base of the loop I tied a single knot. Next I slid the heat shrink up to cover the 3 inch section below the base of the knot I made. I hit it with a hair dryer and Presto! A shorter rope that looks like it came that way from the manufacturer.

I also did the same procedure with one of the 5 foot extensions. I shortened one of those down to 3 feet.

Seriously, that is just a clove hitch. Very simple. If you wanted to have a more permenant loop, you could tie a bowline too.

Theres another one that I prefer over a clove hitch. Its hard to explain but you fold the rope over so you get basically 2 identical loops side by side with the ends of the rope going in the same direction. You fold one loop on top of the other so its 1 circle but its 2 loops, then you make grab the 2 loops and do a half twist to make a figure 8, then fold it in half again so its 1 circle and 4 loops. YOu put the 4 loops over the tow point and pull it tight. Works great and isnt nearly as complex as it sounds.

or you could just speed up the boat which will clean up the wake farther back....how fast do you usually go?

I personally don't concentrate on speed, I just thumbs up(to speed up or down(to slow down) to get the wake how I want it at my riding distance, the people I ride with know to move around if the wake is white washing.

It wasn't me that bumped it, It was ColinP.

There's forum newbies bumping 5 year old threads all over the place these days. It's kind of annoying:P

I never even looked at the date...
